The Oak Room Brunch

by Bill Veneman » Mon Jun 18, 2007 7:47 am

I had what I consider to be the most wonderful brunch of my life yesterday when I was treated to the brunch at the Seelbach's Oak Room. First off, the atmosphere is first rate. What a beautiful setting with the lovely piano music, fine detail and exquisite decor.

The food was, in a word, EXCELLENT. The choices were vast, the quality was top notch, and the flavors were well planned and varied.

Of note was the impressive ice sculpture which house a huge selection of jumbo shrimp (I could have just stayed there and been very happy) and oysters on the half shell, along with oyster shooters, and a delecious smoked salmon.

The usual breakfast fare of biscuits, eggs, bacon and sausage was present, and very tasty as well.

There were treats for the more unusal tastebuds, including sushi, a very interesting and very good salsa and chips, wonderful cheeses and a vast array of other goodies.

The omlette and waffle station was fully stocked, but alas when I got to that stage of the game, I was almost too full to consider it.

There were additionally entrees' and vegetables (of which I did sample a few, that were all grand).

But dessert was the best. They had a Lemon Cake on hand that was probably the best that I've had in years. Very moist, very flavorful, and a wonderful ending to a fabulous meal.

One complaint however, what ever happened the dress code......this is the Oak Room people. At least wear slacks and a decent shirt. Shorts and Sandals are for the beach!

If life's a Banquet, what's with all the Tofu?

Cheers!

It is really a shame that people show up to the Oakroom in shorts and sandals.

What are the hours for the brunch?

We had 11:15 reservations, and they advertise free Champaigne after 1:00, so I'm thinking it goes until 2 or 3.........I was so wrapped up in the food, I didn't really pay attention to the logistical details.

The Oakroom Website tells all:
http://www.seelbachhilton.com/hoteldini ... runch.html

Telephone: (502) 807-DINE (3463)
Reservations are suggested. For any special occasion (e.g., Mother's Day, Easter), reservations are strongly encouraged.

Hours of Operation
Sunday: 10:00 a.m. to 2:00 p.m.
Complimentary Champagne -- 1:00 p.m. to 2:00 p.m.

Attire
Casual

Apparently the evening dress code is held in abeyance for brunch. I wonder if the "Champagne" is really Champagne, or if it's other sparkling wine. I hope the wine-savvy folks at the Oakroom wouldn't abuse that definition.

"Casual Attire" at the Oakroom would make me think of maybe a golf-shirt and a pair of slacks.

Me too, but the reality is that they clearly don't enforce any dress code (other than perhaps "no shoes, no shirt, no service) during the brunch hour.

the food sounds fantastic. I am not a brunch fan usually, but this one sounds like it is worth a trip.

Well Worth It

by Bill Veneman » Mon Jun 18, 2007 10:54 am

Ron, it's not the type of thing that I could afford to do all the time, but for special occasions, it is by far the best......I am now officially spoiled, and nothing else will please me as much for brunch.

Yes, please, how much? The Oakroom website does not mention price. Is that one of those "if you have to ask, you can't afford it" things???

I'm not sure........it's not cheap by any means, but I didn't see the bill, and have no definitive clue.

The Oakroom Brunch is $29 and half that for children 3-11.

$29 . . . really? Damn, I was expecting it to be much higher. That is a great deal.

I honestly cannot believe that your complaint was with what someone else was wearing. Even if someone was there in his or her bathrobe so be it. Their dress does not affect my food or experience. My one thought on the dress code for brunch:
1. This location is in a hotel, many of the customers are guests of the hotel and could be either leaving town or getting into town, so may not want to be all “spruced” up for the trip.

While we have not been to the Oakroom for brunch, we do go to the Flagship (Galt House, I think they changed the name) several times a year and I know there have been people there not dressed in their Sunday best, but the food still tasted great, as always.
