Burger King and Beer

by Alan H » Sat Jan 23, 2010 1:56 am

Burger King is now serving beer in Florida.
Plans on moving towards the midwest if all goes well.

So I gotta ask, what beer would you pair with a Whopper and fries 8)

A fine beer may be judged with only one sip, but it's better to be thoroughly sure.

Fast food joints in Europe have offered beer for years, usually mass-market Euro lagers that are about as insipid as American ones. Conceptually, they match perfectly.

It's hard to imagine a hoppy beer pairing well with food of that, er, nature, and it's equally difficult to make a case for wasting truly good beer on wretched food.

My best guess would be this: Something strong enough to overpower the flavor, maybe a big, robust Smoked Porter or an Imperial Red.

I'm still waiting for them to serve beer IN theaters like Europe. Didn't they talk about this in some place opening in Louisville years back?

Portland has had the Bagdad Theater on SE Hawthorne for ages, showing movies and serving fresh micro-brew. I doubt it'd catch on here. Maybe at Baxter or something.

That's it. Thanks; looks like they are still in the works and have not opened up in Louisville.

Years and years ago, the place now occupied by Szechwan Garden (?) in Plainview housed a movie theater that featured tables to dine and drink while taking in the cinema. Anyone but me remember that place? Cinema and Drafthouse or something like that?

Maybe I'm being a bit negative, but it appears to me that the Speakeasy project is dead. The Facebook page hasn't had an update since May 13, 2009. The Speakeasy website used to sell memberships, and that is no longer being done. For a business that isn't open, I would think they would continue to fund raise if they planned on getting the doors open.

The Moolah Theatre in St. Louis has full bar service for the theatre, with stadium seating only on the back. The floor of the theatre is outfitted with leather couches, chairs, and end tables. I'd love to see something like that here.
