Ok, I have a question; I am on the list to get EBlasts from Theatre Wine & Spirits. I received the following this morning and I am curious as to whether I am getting old and losing my sense of humor or is this just simply slightly unprofessional? If this was sent to me individually and I was great friends with the sender, maybe.....but sent to the "general public"??? Just curious. Any thoughts?
It's been a while since I invited you guys down to visit and give us your money, so I've got something special planned for you. On February 11th, 2010, from 5 p.m. to 7 p.m. for $10. Tim Stratman from Vanguard Wines will be joining us for a grower champagne tasting. For those of you who don't know, which I will assume is most of you (don't worry what you lack in knowledge, you make up for with enthusiasm and good looks, I swear), when a champagne is designated as a grower champagne, that means that the champagne is made at the estate where the grapes were grown. Most champagne houses like Mumm sometimes use as many as 80 different vineyards for one vintage. Grower champagnes tend to have a more focused element of terroir due to the fact that the grapes come from a geographically smaller area. This style, designate by an RM (recoltant manipulat) on the label, accounts for a mere 3% of the champagne market. I hope you got all that down, because I will be quizzing people at the tasting for exciting prizes, like not reinforcing the crushing feeling that everything I do is a pointless waste of time and I should just hurry up and die already. Wouldn't you like to provide someone with a false sense of hope? It's as easy as remembering a few of these facts. Here's what we'll be tasting: Gaston Chicquet 'Carte Verte' Tradition Brut, NV; Marc Hebrart 'Cuvee de Reserve', 1er Cru Brut, NV; and Vilmart Grande Cellier, 1er Cru Brut, NV. Also, take note, that may be the only time you ever see the proper use of the colon/semicolon combo anywhere outside of academia. All of these wines will be available for sale in the wine shop.
Also, if you were paying attention, you probably noticed the mention of cheeses. If you weren't paying attention and were just shuffling through your e-mail like some sort of deaf and dumb zombie who longer even has it in them to crave brains, there will be cheese. Karie has yet to tell me specifically what cheeses, but she seems pretty excited. She was walking around earlier mumbling to herself about sheep and truffles and goats. I was a little worried she'd gone off her meds until I realized she was planning the menu for this event. Of course now she's crafting a hat out of tinfoil, so maybe she went off her meds AND is planning. Whatever.
So 5 p.m. to 7 p.m., $10 bucks. See you there. Or not. Your call, but if you don't come, I've got a box full of kittens that I'll be throwing into the river in front of a crowd of school children. So save a kitten and prevent the emotional scarring of our fair cities youth, come drink some wine and eat cheese. It's that easy. You might even want to consider staying for dinner, or I'd hate to think what I'll be forced to do with this box of puppies.
