ITB Disclosure?

by Bill P » Thu Jan 21, 2010 8:56 am

I've noticed that many of the posters here fully disclose, usually in their signature line, if they are in the food/beverage industry, especially in an ownership or management capacity. As a relative newcomer to Greater L'ville and these fora, I find this very useful information. Thank you for sharing this information.

On the other hand, there are others who I suspect are in the business, but don't "mention" it. Perhaps their business relationship(s) are so well known in the local circles they just assume everyone here knows it? I suspect there are many others here (like me) who are clueless and would appreciate this information.
Cheers,
Bill

If you want to count the 1.5 years I spent in HS working for PoFolks and Ponderosa as "in the business" then I am a former ITB.
I am the original Mike G, never mind the impostor.

I am kind of a big deal.

I worked at a sandwich shop in Tucson in high school. But quit when they told me I was focusing too much attention on school

I think Bill is saying to add the name or your business or a link to your website in the signature area if you are in the food industry.

Signatures can be added in the control panel.

Instead of mine saying:

"Bacon is the gateway meat." Ryan Farr

it could say something like http://www.justinsgreatrestaurant.com

This situation happened to me a few weeks ago. I ask where I could find empanada wrappers and someone replied, "I have them in my store". I had no idea what store the poster was speaking of. If she had a link to her website as her signature I could have done immediate business with her.

Correct. On a voluntary basis, of course.

To those in the industry,

From a marketing perspective, I highly recommend including your position and Restaurant name in the signature of your email. It's a great, easy way to remind everyone about your place and keep it "top of mind". It also significantly reduces confusion: there have been several recent posts where someone was posting an event, special, etc at their restaurant, and neglected to mention the restaurant.

For me, I was in the business, still paying for the business, and now back to being a corporate-type and rabid-foodie.

That is a real site. I guess I should have checked before posting. I'll make a edit.

Haven't been "in the business" in 30-some years. I HAVE been known to GIVE people the business on a fairly regular bassis. :P

I don't list in my signature that I work in the business... though I do link to my chef blog, which discloses pretty much everything about me professionally in the bio section.

Most of the regular posters around here know well who I am, but in the interest of public disclosure...
I've spent the better part of the past 3 years as the Pastry Chef at the Oakroom in the Seelbach Hilton.
Prior to that I was employed at Asiatique restaurant for 3 years as Pastry Chef, the last few years doing Sous Chef duties as well...

Suppose i should edit my signature line now...
