Sixth-best brewpub in the WORLD: Rich O's!

by Robin Garr » Sat Jun 16, 2007 9:14 am

Roger Baylor's Rich O's Public House and New Albanian Brewing Company get some ink in today's CJ, with a short article by Sarah Fritschner keying on Rich O's selection by the RateBeer Website as sixth-best beer bar in the world, one of 93 gold medalists under "Best Beer Bars."

Roger, you should have tooted your own horn, buddy! This is quite an honor.

Fritschner also mentions that Louisville's Bluegrass Brewing Company, 3929 Shelbyville Road, ranked 59th out of 100 "Best Brewpubs" on a separate RateBeer list.

Matt, you sure know how to get to a guy ... I'll be over next week, I hope.

Planning to come anyway, but now with an added incentive.

On behalf of all of us, thanks to all of you.

Roger- Congrats on the long overdue recognition. You are definately the true "King of Beers" in this area and I admire your dedication to quality. If you ever want to brew a coffee stout, let me know, I've got some ideas for you.

Once again keep up your passion.

Hi, David. We've talked about doing something with coffee in a beer; I'll bounce it off the brew crew again. Thanks.

This is an echo of what I said on Roger's Blog, but congratulations once again Roger. We are truly fortunate to have an establishment like yours in the area. I've lived in two larger communities (Columbus, OH and Phoenix, AZ) and neither had an establishment that could hold a candle to what you and your staff does.

I can say for certain there was nothing in Las Vegas like Rich-O's. A few places had a lot of bottled beers but fell way short in the draft category.

Congrats for the well-deserved recognition.

I stopped by Rich O's last night and they were doing a very healthy business, all tables were full (this was late, about 11) and I enjoyed a great community dark. My first time on a weekend night but it's def a cool hangout!

Thanks ... a report from the front line.

by Roger A. Baylor » Sun Jun 17, 2007 12:12 pm

I'm always glad/relieved to her that things were going well when I'm not around. Business has been holding up well considering the summer temps and highway work. I'm not sure if any readers are into lambics, but the annual "by the glass" day approaches: June 30, when I'll open a slew of different bottles and price/pour them by the 3 oz-4 oz glass.

Last night I was at the Speakeasy, New Albany's just-opened jazz venue, restaurant and bar, for a performance by the Glenn Miller Orchestra under the direction of Larry O'Brien. It was only the fourth day open for the Speakeasy and very ambitious of them to do two performance seatings, and while the music and beer was fine, there were problems in the kitchen ... BUT I think everyone there understood and graded Speakeasy highly for making the attempt.

BTW, NABC and BBC beers there on tap, and the food I had earlier in the week for lunch was top-rate. I'll try to provide more reports on this as we go along.

Speakeasy brings NABC up to nine taps in downtown NA, as opposed to eight (for our house beers) at the pub and pizzeria. Those are at Bistro NA, Speakeasy and Connor's Place. To service these accounts, we'll probably be hiring some part-time help for the brewery to assist in cleaning and preparation, and looking into a vehicle for deliveries.

Congratulations Roger!

I love your place and hope to use this recognition to lure my brother-in-law (who lives in Seattle) into bringing my sister & her kids to visit Louisville sometime. I think Gravity Fest is a good reason to travel across the U.S. with four small children!

But all this beer-talk has brought back loving Gravity Fest memories of JW Lees Vintage Harvest Ale - do you ever have that in the bottle? (To be honest, I've only ordered beers on tap... you do sell bottled beers, too, right?)

Oh, and please post if you finalize plans for another beer dinner! Cheers!!
