Help! Need Chicken & Dumplings

by Deb Hall » Mon Jan 18, 2010 3:13 pm

All,

My mom's in the hospital from gallbladder surgery and very weak, in part because she can't stomache any food- nothing appeals. I did finally get her to admit maybe she could eat some Chicken & Dumplings if I brought her some tonight. I'm at work and won't be able to make some for her- where can I buy some great ( traditional) Chicken & Dumplings?

She's at Jewish downtown/ I'm on the far East End ( near the Summit) so someplace near/on the way to either would be ideal. But I'll drive across town if necessary- I just need them to be really good.

Thanks, but I need them this evening is possible and it looks like they only have them on special on Thursdays.

Other suggestions for restaurants that have them on their daily menu?

Hope your mom gets better.

My favorite I've had in the city are at Thornberry's. They have them on special once per week, but it's been awhile since I worked over there, and can't remember which day it is.

...I'd love to hear any more places in town that have them regularly though, I get a craving now and t hen and never really know where to look, other than Cracker Barrell.

Deb, Flabby's in Germantown has Chicken and Dumplings as a lunch special on Monday. Bet you a fig if you call and ask, they can have some set aside for you.

Never thought I'd regret not working downtown anymore- White Oak seemed perfect but they are not open for dinner this evening ( only lunch).

Keep the suggestions coming guys- these are great.

Deb, Captain Pepper Jack's Aero Bistro has chicken and dumplings on the menu daily. My mom had them last time and they were pretty good.

I would advise calling ahead to insure they do still have them. When we went they were out of a few things / had made a few minor menu changes.

Hope your mom gets feeling well. DD

It is a little far out there, but I know Claudia Sanders has chicken and dumplings.

Another option that is closer is Goose Creek Diner.

Kurt,

Have you had them at Goose Creek? That would be wonderful- right by my house!

I'd say Cracker Barrel.....the one thing about their's is that might be good in this case is that it's not highly seasoned and pretty basic. Been thru the gallbladder thing and it's no fun. Hope your mom feels better soon!

Kris,
Great idea, but they close at 7:00 before I can get there. I tried the Prospect location and they don't have them as a special today. When I asked if they had any other ideas on where to get them on the East End, they suggested " go to Kroger and get the kind in the can..." Yikes! ( It'd be funny if I wasn't so desparate...)
