Haiti

by Karen H » Wed Jan 13, 2010 10:01 pm

Robin, I know this is not really food related, feel free to move it if you need to, but I just wanted to ask you all to please stop for a moment and say a prayer for the people of Haiti. This earthquake has simply devasted an already struggling country. My family has friends there and my daughter spent last summer as an intern at the Northwest Haiti Christian Mission. Just pray. Thank you!

If you have a few extra bucks you can also donate to Yele or of course the Red Cross. Yele is a Haiti only organization.

I'm trying to figure out a way to volunteer...Military Air Traffic Control aside, I will be looking into whether there is a need for volunteer controllers in the coming days.

Until then....praying...a lot.

Karen, it's fine. I love it when the community comes together to help when there's a need.

Here's another quick and easy way to make a small difference. Click this link:
http://bits.blogs.nytimes.com/2010/01/1 ... t-message/
for a NY Times story with instructions on how to make a quick $10 contribution by sending a one-word text message on your cellphone. (The donation is added to your mobile phone bill.)

It is awful. My brother is in the middle of adopting a daughter from Haiti. He has no idea if she is okay or not. No communication. They are so far along in this process that it is heart breaking.

Another easy way to make contributions online: Episcopal Relief & Development has added a Haiti fund to its online contributions pages:

You can also go to the Northwest Haiti Christian Mission website to find out about what's going on there and also where to donate too. nwhcm.org

Thanks for all your prayers!!

Will keep us updated on your (soon to be) niece. Where is she in Haiti?

It's heartbreaking. We can donate, and we can pray. Will, your brother must be crazy with worry.

The only thing that makes me more ill than the earthquake and the thousands of lives lost, is Pat Robertson. He said, "Something happened a long time ago in Haiti, and people might not want to talk about it," Robertson said. "They were under the heel of the French ... and they got together and swore a pact to the devil. They said, 'We will serve you if you'll get us free from the French.'"

"True story," he continued. "And the devil said, 'OK, it's a deal.' Ever since, they have been cursed by one thing after another."

What an ass!

I made a comment to Anne when we first saw the story on the news.." I wonder how it will take Pat Robertson to comment on this?" I couldn't believe it when I heard his statement.

Again...what an ass!!

I agree....Pat Robertson needs to keep his fat yap shut!

Another one is Rush Linbaugh....JUDE....I was watching Keith Oberman last night, and he was giving each their due....Needless to say I was cheering for Keith! I hope somebody gets the gumpshin to sue both of them for defimation, slander or what ever else they can. Action like that should not go unpunished, IMHO!

I fear this will be the worst disaster of the century. Just horrible. No water. No food. No housing. No power or fuel. Dead bodies everywhere. I pray the US military and other support organizations can get in there soon enough to set up working tent cities to save people.

Couldn't agree more. The worst thing is that all to many people listen to this garbage.

Haiti was a hell hole(one of the poorest countries on the planet) before this disaster, hopefully this will shine a light on the plight of the Haitian people.

Pat Robertson can burn in Hell!

We gave 10% of profits today to the Red Cross. We also set up a jar for donations and did quite well. Our prayers are with all those who are suffering, It is heartbreaking,
