Love for our locals

by Kris Billiter » Tue Jan 12, 2010 11:28 pm

With my wife still in the hospital, visiting hours shutting down suring a shift change, and the cafeteria closing early on the weekends I have had the opportunity to visit 2 of my favorite places and a new one the past few days. Quick thoughts:
1) Havana Rumba- already posted my experience on the other thread, but this place is so good. I could eat there nightly
2) La Catalina- Decided to check them out. Had the grilled sausage over white beans. Wanted something different and relatively inexpensive. Good dish. Sausage was good, beans were very flavorful. Lots of garlic. Beans were slightly on the crunchy side. Almost dried out but not quite. Seemed like an interesting menu. The problem was they were empty. Maybe one other table. It was a Sunday night though and my server said the weekend had been busier. Check them out.
3) Lou Lou- Incredibly consistent and good. Went tonight and sat in the bar area so not to take up a table since I was solo. Had the nights soup. Black Bean and sausage. Great flavor, nice spice level. Really good soup ot have on a cold night. Also had the wings which were a treat. Baked not fried and I got them half regular half jerk. Couldn't decide which I liked more. Really good wings. A shout out to Matt (I think) at the bar. Very kind and generous. We talked for a bit and he was just a really nice guy.

Another reminder of the quality of the food scene we have here in this city. Thanks to all involved in these places and for providing a bit of normalcy in what has been a crazy week.

Kris,
Hope your wife is getting better each day! How's the new little one?

I made a New Year's resolution to make more posts on dining experiences. I have a tendency to only post if the experience isn't up to par and that is terrible! LOL

Didn't feel like cooking last and didn't know what I wanted to eat. So (I hate doing this, too) I started driving around....didn't want to go any place too expensive, some place where a single woman dining alone doesn't look wierd and I kinda wanted to read my book, so had to have some light (thought of a couple of places, but can't read in them, like Come Back Inn). I ended up at La Que on Bardstown Rd and it was delightful!
I had Sauteed Veges in Rainbow sauce with chicken and brown rice with a pot of hot tea. Everything was really good, it was only $14 with a $4 tip and I have enough left for dinner tonight! What a deal.

In the same strip as Del Frisco's and Havana Rumba on Oechli Ave.
