Slip Slidin' Away!

by Dan Thomas » Thu Jan 07, 2010 8:51 am

Be careful out there driving today kids! It's getting really slick, really fast! I almost slid one of our catering vans into oncoming traffic as I skidded to a not so sudden stop! I just got in from making the first run of deliveries and conditions have changed quicky in the hour or so I spent out there on the streets!

Besides the normal slowdown at Zorn,I-71 was very managable....however, once you get down onto Jefferson from 65, all bets are off....EVERYBODY was fishtailing....I thank God I come into town early anyway....Take it easy, and keep your distance.

There are some really slick spots on Taylorsville Rd, as well. Be CAREFUL!

Germantown/Schnitzelburg was not treated or plowed at all when I left at 8 am this morning. Be careful!

This our fist winter in this home in very rural Harrison County and I've been impressed with the response to this teensie snow. Our rural, and I mean rural, dead end street was plowed and treated around 7:30AM...guess it doesn't hurt that a county commissioner lives in the vicinity.

On the other hand, Bill, I just saw this posted on Facebook by someone who obviously doesn't live so close to the commish: "Standstill SR 64 in Georgetown IN...30 mins & not to interstate" ...

Robin-
Floyd County, PFFT!
I suspect someone perhaps got a bit impatient around the construction zone at SR64/I64 and wrecked. That is usually a PITA bottle neck even without the snow.

Glad I am off work and don't have to be anywhere for the next three days...I enjoy walking and hiking on the snow but I dread driving on snow...

I dropped girls off at Pres Academy 8:00 AM this morning... cursing the Archdiocese the whole time for not having a late start or going on and canceling for the day (confessional, here I come). It will probably just as bad or worse when I have to pick them up at 3:00.

Let's add a bunch of teen drivers to the mix along with all the moms and grandmas!!!!!

I did not go to Krogers to get milk or bread. However, beer was another matter. Let it snow as long as it wants.

My daughter and I absentmindedly went to Kroger yesterday to get a deli pizza for dinner.

It was Senior Citizen Day, the first of the month AND the snow was on the way. There were so many old people, it could have been an episode of the Twilight Zone....

I was driving up one of those hills on Barret Avenue before you get to Eastern Parkway going South-East at about 11:15AM when the lady in front of me did a complete 180 & started sliding down the hill towards me. Luckily she was able to regain control right before hitting me & she just went back in the other direction as if nothing ever happened. I saw several cars on I-65 North between Gene Snyder & the Broadway exit that were either stalled or smashed up. I would recommend staying at home if at all possible. Unfortunately, I have to drive downtown again this afternoon to pick up the wife from work.

Two inches ?....Wussies.

But have no fear. What with my being a soon to be unemployed guv'ment contractor, I will now have the time to fulfill one of my lifes dreams (In cooperation with Velvet Jones) I am going to open Stevie P's school on "How to drive in dah wintah sno".
