Maa Sha - Allah African Restaurant

by James Natsis » Tue Jan 05, 2010 4:42 pm

I literally stumbled into this place this morning by accident. They opened about 6 months ago at 4113 Bardstown Rd (Tel: 491-3152) in Buechel tucked behind a building towards the end of the road before it remerges with Bardstown Rd not far from Bob Hook Chevrolet. It is run by a Sierra Leonese and Senegalese couple. It was too early for me to eat (plus no veggie options) but I grabbed a menu and spoke with the lady for quite some time. Their fare is similar to Chez Seneba. Currently, its very small with just a few tables and a short counter. However, she took me next door where the area has been vacated and showed me where they will be expanding over the coming months. They hope to eventually cater to groups and parties.

I just stumbled across this place today while getting the car worked on. Has anyone tried it yet?
There's also an African market on the same area of B-town, but just a little north. Anyone been?

Woohoo! I would certainly venture outside the Watterson for more good African cuisine. Remember the little Senegalese place that opened on Old Bardstown Road for a way-too-short spell a couple of years ago? Extremely cordial people, darn good fare, and I loved it that they had Senegalese MTV on satellite television. 8)

I went in there several times. One time there were two young girls sitting on the floor behind the counter. They offered to take order but I was not feeling too comfortable, an adult never came to the front. And for some reason, it does not convey a comfortable feeling of cleanliness or that they do any business. Anyway, I'm not easily scared and probably will still try it. That day they only had fish and I didn't want that either. From what I know, they have one African entree special dish per day and that is the only choice. So have to get the special or if you don't like what is being served that day you get the menu and come back on the day of the special that you like.

Robin, take one for the team and go try it out!

Sure. I had some of the best service ever from the owner's incredibly polite grade-school son at Mi Patria, and - although Pop and Mom were on hand - the young man at Little India. Come to think about it, have you ever gone to El Rumbon when Reinhold's kids are there and demand to check out your smartphone?
