what shall i do?

by Jessie H » Thu Dec 31, 2009 3:13 am

as part of my christmas present, the guy i'm dating promised to take me to dinner anywhere i choose. problem is, i can't choose. as far as i know, price range won't be an issue. usually, my ideal dinner is a really great steak and something delicious and chocolate for dessert. i'm open to anything though. thanks forumites!

What a nice present to get for Christmas....Must be some guy! :D
If money is no object then by all means go to Corbett's, You really can't do any better than them in town. Call ahead and ask Chef Chris what kind of steaks he has. Or better yet if you do a tasting ask if they could do a few extra beef or steak dishes. With ample notice, they will gladly customize a menu based upon your likes and dislikes.

Jeff Ruby's is also good if you are set on a nice steak.
Enjoy and Happy New Year :D :D :D

There are $100 gift cards for Rivue on restaurants.com for $40 if you want to save a little money. I've never been but I've heard good things.

For my money, Jack Fry's filet is consistently amazing. Always perfectly cooked, just slightly crispy on the edges. That is my go-to place when I want steak. You'll no doubt be tempted by other dishes, as well - a stilton salad would be a great starter with the filet. And the desserts are always divine.

If you're looking for a non-steak fabulous experience, go to Basa. For steaks - Z's Oyster Bar gets my vote. They have great blue cheese dressing for salads and a chocolate souffle (I think)

I have to throw in my 2 cents - I would go to 732 Social or Corbett's, the food is absolutely amazing, but I would agree with the other postings as well

I will second Jack Fry's. Also, ask your date to request our favorite server--Liz. I always order the filet which just melts in your mouth. It comes with aspargus and a parm. potato cake. I think it's about $34. They also have this chocolate souffle that comes with a mini chocolate malt milkshake.

Corbetts's Chef Deano is king! My wife and I went on her birthday and it was the best meal/dining experience we have ever had. We both had the tasting menu. The very top shelf in dining!

everybody, thanks so much for all the great suggestions. i looked at the menus for each restaurant and i decided to show my boy's wallet some mercy. all of the suggested places sounded fantastic, but i think i'm going to go with varanese. i suppose we'll go on a sunday for the 1/2 price app special. the other restaurants had delicious sounding dishes but varanese seemed to be the more affordable choice. also, i've always driven by it and seen the people through the big windows and wished it were me sitting in there eating in that beautiful looking place. now i'll get to :) i'll try and post what we had and how we liked it. thanks again.
