Jeffersonville - new place - El Sombrero....

by Becky M » Tue Dec 29, 2009 9:01 pm

I was at the bank and saw a sign for a new restaurant. El Sombrero, i am guessing it might be Mexican because of the name. I wonder if it is authentic Mexican or Americanized Mexican. It is near the Miejer in Jeffersonville, in the little strip where Blockbuster, Hallmark, and some other places are.

anyone know anything about this place?

From what I understand Americanized Mexican similar to El Nopal. This is a group out of Indianapolis.

It's where the old Bearno's (Jeffersonville) was located, adjacent to Meijers, off 10th Street.

About a week ago, I saw a tractor trailer unloading seating, so maybe they'll be opening soon.

We enjoy El Nopal about every other week (Sellersburg or NA), have to see how this compares. This is right by us, that plus the impending opening of Zaxbys (though we did lose Taco Bueno). Puerto Vallarta? You all enjoy...

Puerta Vallarta is awesome even though it's only menu difference from all the other "El"s and "La"s are the availability of potatoes. I suspect this Sombrero place will be the same.

I find some of these places differ dramatically on quality; even though they are under the same name. And, it's not a chain vs indie discussion at all. It's just the way I've experienced some stores have a disturbingly lower grade quality than other stores. *shrug*

Kyle, i completely agree with you. Definitely not a chain/indie issue. To me it is kind of like, all the same, but not....if you get what i mean. I think it really just has to do with the individuals working at the places. The times we have been to Puerto Vallarta they have been really, really great with us and our kids. And the food has always been pretty authentic to me.

Authentic? Becky you owe it to yourself to try La Rosarita or one of the Taquerias to have some authentic Mexican food. What we call Mexican in the Puerto Vallarta, El Nopal, Los Aztecas, Ruben's, etc is really Tex Mex or Americanized Mexican.

Noticed Sunday that EL SOMBRERO is open now. (It's where Bearno's was in Jeffersonville, off 10th Street, near Meijers.)
