Theatre Square Marketplace

by Bill Veneman » Tue Dec 22, 2009 12:33 pm

I am finally going to have the opportunity to have lunch at Theatre Square Marketplace on Thursday....several of my co-workers have been and have nothing but raves and praise. Seems that from what I hear fellow forumite Will Pulliam has turned a silk purse out of the sow's ear that the former Kentucky Theater was.

Question....has anybody been there to report.....I can't even find a web-site for it.....
If life's a Banquet, what's with all the Tofu?

Cheers!

I haven't been, but I did find a myspace page that seems to be theirs.

They have an awesome cocktail list (which might not be appropriate for lunch). I had the Rosemary Gin Fizz (or something like that), a friend had their award winning Cider Manhattan, then there was a pisco sour and something I can't remember. We had the artichoke dip - it was fine.

The place looks kinda amazing if you can remember what it was before. I need to go in and try the grub though.

I work near by and have been four or five times over the last several months. Excellent food, environment and great pricing given the quality.

Bill, I hate to be the bearer of bad news, but Theater Square Marketplace will definitely be closed on Thursday! The restaurant, grocery store and liquor store will all be closed on Thursday as well as Friday this week. Sorry!

Bill, Why do you give all the credit to Will? George and Eric are the driving force behind the concept and decor (and money) and Dustin has worked very hard in the grocery and menu area. My understanding is that Will does the liquor store area.....just a few notes. I wish them nothing but luckin this endeavor (it's literally out my back door!) I just wish they would get some decent bread for the sandwiches. They use boring and tasteless Klostermans (gee why not Rainbo???)LOL

I have had an offline discussion with Joel about this very subject....I had chatted briefly with Will about TSM when they were first renovating, and then I was out of pocket for a while due to an illness and lost touch. My apoligies if I misstepped...definatly not my intent. I had just not had the opportunity to post this note prior to yours.

Hey Bill,
Didn't seem to sound snippy! Sorry! It was early and the coffee hadn't set in yet! Hope you have a great Christmas!

In honor of today's UofL/UK game, Theater Square Marketplace is having a special on bloody marys and draft beer. Come watch the game on our HD TVs at the bar! Theater Square Marketplace is located at 651 S. 4th Street (in the old Kentucky Theater building, just north of the Brown Hotel), and is open from 11 AM to Midnight today.

Joel a concern of mine is restaurant is kind of hidden unless you know where to come. I could easily believe many people walk right by the entrance every day not knowing what a nice restaurant exists just inside the doors. I know there is a small sidewalk sign that says "Theater Place Marketplace" outside but have you thought about how to convey to foot traffic that you are there? Just an unbiased opinion, hopefully giving you some good feedback.

We went to this lovely place last night to celebrate a co-worker's anniversary in Louisville. It really is lovely and they have a very interesting drink menu. I can't decide between the gin-gin mule or the rosemary gin fizz.

They were not busy - so patronize this lovely place and keep them in business.
