Quote from OJ

by TP Lowe » Mon Jun 11, 2007 1:57 pm

Since this was talked about at great length on the board, here is a snippet from "Editor and Publisher" online:

Simpson cited the recent story about him being asked to leave a Louisville, Ky. restaurant during Kentucky Derby week. He said the owner asked him to exit and he agreed, but was surprised it became a story anyway. "A guy pulls me aside at a restaurant, he is not a fan and he won't serve me," Simpson recalled. "I could make a big deal about it because it was illegal. But I said it was no problem, but it became a newspaper story.

"In this day and age, when someone not serving me in Kentucky, with no argument, is a story and we don't know that someone is going up in space and we know more about Paris Hilton going to jail, something is wrong," he added.

ILLEGAL .... my A...... Only way it would be illegal is if it was racial. As I understand it, his table was taken by Michael Jordan. Best I noticed Jordan is also black.

OJ was refused service because he is an arrogant killer. The civil suit reinforces that statement.

Reason that Simpson didn't push charges against Ruby's was because he couldn't make any money. Kudos to Jeff Ruby.

I will stand up loud and long and agree with O.J. Simpson on 1 point alone: The crap that passes for news in this day and age scares me. This is not news. Hilton going to jail is not news. O.J. being asked to leave a restaurant is not news. The attention span of the average adult is..........hey look, a bunny rabbit!

OJ makes a good point about the state of the news. Now the real question is, what do we do about it?

Ok! I didn't comment on this subject, when it was first mentioned.First of all ,It's crazy that everyone makes a big deal about this and things like paris Hilton. We have so many other issues going on in America. We have a farmer being a Smart !@# and asking "I wonder where he ate" and then a bunch of people saying I would have thrown him out too.Easy to say after the fact! Listen, Jeff Ruby is NO HERO for asking him to leave, nor am I a murderer or support O.J for serving him. Our HEROES are fighting a horrible war right now.My mom and family had to bury my 23 year old cousin 2 weeks ago.(who was killed in the war) fighting for all of us.Once again, Jeff Ruby is no Hero! In my opinion,it was a big publicity stunt.I respect his decesion, because he has that right. After seeing the interview on CNN it showed his real motive. He talked more about his cigar and what he was wearing.I recieved alot of e-mails from local Chefs and restaurant owners telling me I did nothing wrong and how they felt about the whole thing. Most agree it was for selfesh reasons. Anyways, I just let it all out! This is just my opinion.I don't think we need to worry about who will serve him next year!

That's the way it looked to me, Anthony.

Heck, why don't we all call up and yell at Churchill Downs for letting OJ into Millionaires' Row?

Ethics

by Deb Hall » Mon Jun 11, 2007 7:09 pm

Assuming Jeff Ruby was genuine (which may be a big assumption, but stick with me on this), then I applaud both Jeff and Anthony for their treatment of OJ.

Confused? Well, to me it's about sticking to your ethics/ customer service model. In Ruby's case, if he believes the right thing to do was not to serve him in his "house", then bully for him standing up for what he believes even with a potential for bad press/legal action (we all know it could happen). And if it is Anthony's code/ belief is that the customer/exemplary customer service & a truly memorable dining experience is number one (regardless of any personal opinion he might have of someone) and he sticks to that regardless of what other people might think, then I applaud him for sticking to his values.

I still don't understand why anyone cares either way about this story. It is really a non-story. A publicity stunt IMO. Some people like controversy and run towards it hoping that everyone takes up the cause. I see through this.

Anthony is 100% right, Jeff Ruby is no hero, with it being derby night I'm quite sure that OJ had a reservation, so why not just call him back and cancel?

Paris Hilton, Anna Nicole, Linsey Lohan..I'm ashamed I know who these people are.

Thanks Anthony ... I thought it was a legitimate question given the nature of the original post.

On the topic of what is news and what is junk .. has anyone ever heard of comic relief?? Most good dramas will have a bit of comic relief ... people need that. With this war and the other pressing issues of our nation, sometimes people just NEED to follow an otherwise meaningless story line. I listen to NPR every morning and I wake up to the same thing ... suicide bombings, troops killed, etc ... I am a military wife and my husband served this beautiful country of ours for 20 years in places like Grenada, Beirut, and Irag. Trust me, we realize how important our TRUE HEROES are, but we also see that even the battle weary troops need something uplifting to keep them going.
