Boombozz indeed moving Hurstbourne to Westport Village

by Robin Garr » Mon Dec 21, 2009 5:42 pm

... and turning the former Macca's into the second Boombozz Taphouse.

Here's the full scoop from Tony P, who assures me that Boombozz is a Louisville indie and so are we, and that any rumors of them holding a story for the Virginia-based Gannett Courier-Journal were grossly exaggerated. ;)

Now let's specualate about what NEW BOOMBOZZ CONCEPT is going into the Hurstbourne space! :D

Dec. 2009
Boombozz Pizza to open Taphouse Concept in Westport Village

Louisville, KY (December, 2009) – Louisville based Tony Boombozz announces it will officially open its second Boombozz Pizza & Taphouse in February in Westport Village located at the corner of Herr Lane and Westport Road. The Springhurst Boombozz location will move its operations to the new site and a new concept from the Boombozz family will open in its place.

A 11-year old concept with its roots in Louisville, Boombozz Pizza & Tap House is a friendly neighborhood restaurant and bar proudly featuring mouthwatering award-winning pizza, pastas, calzones and salads. To quench your thirst it will offer a full bar complete with its selection of beers from around the world and 21 craft beers on tap.

The Taphouse concept was designed to create a comfortable, cozy favorite local hang-out,” said Tony Palombino, CEO/Founder. “Guest feedback played a key role in designing the form and function of a space.”

I'll be the first to say that I'm sorry to see the N Hurstbourne location change and move. The move is no big deal but the change is. Pizza & Vino, contrary to it's name, was very family oriented fast casual with beer and wine but no "bar" vibe to it at all. I'll reserve judgement until we wing through the new spot but I hope it still will be a place for a family to feel comfortable to come in and eat at any time.

I'm with Ed on this one. I'll reserve judgement, but the Springhurst Boombozz is a GREAT family place. I really hope that the new concept is as family friendly. I'm excited about the Taphouse coming to Westport Village. I love all of the businesses in there and was hoping that something good would replace Macca's.

I actually find the current location on Hurstbourne a little "boring" and would rather go to the Tap House if it were closer. Now it will be! Hooray!

21 taps! Glad the new Taphouse will maintain the emphasis on good beer that the first started.

Boombozz Westport Village review

by JustinHammond » Tue Feb 16, 2010 8:20 pm

The wife and I went tonight for the grand opening and it was fantastic. I will make this short and sweet before I slip into a food coma. Cheese fritters, ravioli, wings, and D' Sienna pizza were all spot on. $2 pints of Purple Haze for Fat Tuesday. The bar service was a little slow at the start, but they were slammed. The table and kitchen service were fantastic. The only thing that took longer than expected were the drinks. It has the same bar seating of Macca's and the nautical theme has been replaced with witty beer and pizza signs. My only suggestions would be to add a few more tv's and the Brooklyn style pie.

Job well done!

My beautiful bride and son paged me at work with the message "We are at the new Boombozz!!!" Her report:

"Same reliable, delicious, unique Boombozz pizza and Asiago cheesesticks. Disappointed with no Brooklyn pizza but happy to see the Nonna. The place was slammed but service was keeping up and were happy to see the efficient and friendly servers from Hurstbourne. Miss the pictures of Tony's family. Good to chat with Tony and good to see everyone enjoying themselves."

Can't wait to get in myself! I see a problem already with the Comfy Cow right around the corner!

Congratulations to Tony and staff!

Exclamation points for everyone!!!! :D

Took the family last night too. We arrived at 6:45, and the place was packed! The food was spot on, but it was clear the staff was not ready for the onslaught. Nothing unexpected for an opening night, especially since the place was unexpectantly PACKED. The staff was working very hard to keep up as best as possible. Being fans of Boombozz, we were willing to accept the situation for what it was - a great opening at a new location of one of our favorite restaurants. But I saw several families with younger wiggly kids hitting the "where the hell is my food" button. Since Tony had a Purple Haze special on tap, I could care less.

I see this location doing great. Congratulations to Tony and Crew on a huge opening night.

Thanks Bryan! and to all that came. It was challenging at times! we had several printers that went down in the middle of the onslaught, hopefully we have those issues resloved.

Best,

Tony

We too hit the new place about 6:45 last night. Short answers: food was good as usual, the servers tried very hard, it has a VERY sports bar like feel & is somewhat family unfriendly, it is also very loud, It took us till 8:30 to get our food, after getting a table right away. Will do carryout from here on out.

BTW If you wait for a table at the bench by the door, don't lean back. The bench has no back & is sitting against a fire exit door that opens if you lean back!

Hubby is very, very unhappy about this move. We ordered delivery from Boombozz regularly, and the Springhurst location was about 10 minutes away, which usually equated to a 30-40 minute delivery, where Westport is easily 20 minutes, meaning we're talking an hour delivery time, if we're even in their radius anymore. Major bummer. We just don't go out for pizza much, so the Taproom concept, while nice, probably means a visit only occasionally. (Hubby prefers to go to the "source" for local beer - BBC Tap room or NABC Bank Street)

I was also hoping that Boombozz would keep something in that space.... :(

I'm the same way. I love that all these locals are carrying local beer, as it gets my hopes up of finding a good drink when I end up out with other people. But when it's up to me, I'm going to the source.

I've found the one on Eastern Pkwy to be quite loud. I'm sensing the loudness comes with the concept. I went with a buddy pretty late one weeknight. The place was not that busy, but the volume was still pretty loud. I'm sure this is a personal preference thing. For me, it's just too loud.

That doesn't sound safe, or legal.
Thinks the frosty mug is the low point in American history.

we are waiting on parts to close off the door, but it is legal. The loudness is part of the concept, BOOMBOZZ, festive and fun. Thanks to all that came out this past week, it seemed like all of Louisville was here! I am very proud to be in this great city! We cater to all ages, the crowd yesterday for the U of L game was a mix of families and adults. Best, Tony
