A.J.'s Gyro Cafe closing

by Alison Hanover » Sun Dec 20, 2009 11:21 am

It is with great sadness that I have to inform you all that I am calling it a day on Christmas Eve at 3pm. I have tried but I just can't make it here. I will be open Tues and Weds until 8pm and Christmas Eve until 3pm. My kitchen help has just quit, so I am completely by myself.

Those of you who are attending the New Year's Day bash at Serviche I look forward to seeeing you. Please excuse me if I get a bit emotional though :(

My Mother has terminal cancer and I have to go to Crete, pack her up and move her back to England. I was hoping to keep the place on, but with no staff, and no money to pay staff to run it in my absence I have no other choice.

I would like to thank the forumers who made it over to see us. I will be re-opening Georgetown sometime in mid to late March.
Regards
Alison Hanover

Alison-
So sorry to hear about your Mom and the need to close the Cafe. NJ and I finally made it over on Friday for lunch and enjoyed our gyro and fish sandwich and are disappointed that we will be unable to return. We'll see you this Spring in Georgetown which is actually more convenient to our Harrison County home.
Best to you and your family.

Allison, I'm so very saddened by this news! It sounds like you are under a colossal amount of stress. I'm so sorry about your mother's medical condition. This all has to be tremendously difficult for you and your family, particularly from such a great distance.

We'll be thinking of you often and looking forward to visiting your Georgetown store in the Spring.

I'm so sorry, this is all very sad news, except the part about News Yrs Day brunch with us at Seviche. See you then.

I am so sorry to hear the news. My family and I really loved your restaurant - especially since it was just a mile away! We were in for lunch last Friday and had your wonderful gyros. My thoughts and prayers for you and your family. We will be looking forward to your return to Georgetown.

I thank you for all your kind comments. I cannot read them without starting to cry, so I don't know what sort of state I am going to be in at Serviche! I look forward to seeing you all then.

Would just like to say I am very sorry that things did not work out for you Alison. I was in on a weeknight a couple of weeks ago and really enjoyed a gyro and the feta/olives plate. Really good food. Hang in there.

Alison, at the risk of continuing your tears, I'm also very sorry to see you go, and had hoped that a positive review might have helped at least a little. Also very sorry to hear about your mother.

In the realm of small blessings, I am happy to see you mention that the Georgetown shop will reopen in the spring! Be sure to let us know a little in advance of the opening, and we'll help spread the word. :)

I'm sad to see this, but not overly surprised. My wife and I have eaten there 3-4 times over the last 4 months and love it. When I tell people about it, the usual reply is "is that the place in the old Ranch House." My cousin, who used to cook there, also mentioned that business wasn't so good after the opening period.

I'm sorry to see you go, but we will certainly venture to Georgetown next summer.
