Just wanted your opinion?

by Rick Moir » Wed Dec 16, 2009 1:08 pm

Hey everyone, I know if I ask this I will of course get various responses but go ahead and let me know. We at Cocos Lokos just wanted to see how your experience at the resturant has been on any recen visits ? This is of course is if you've been able to come out? Service, food, and drinks if you wouldn't mind, I am just trying to get a handle on our developement of service and food?

Rick, there is already quite a bit of discussion going on about Cocos Lokos, and it is just about 100 percent complimentary! Check out these two topics:

I also had a brief review in LEO last week - it's on the LouisvilleHotBytes.com home page, with Cocos Lokos coming after the La Catalana review. I may have neglected to post it in the forum ... it has been that kind of week. I'll try to catch up on that soon.

Rick,

Since you asked ...

Went in for carry-out this past Thursday (12/10) around 8:30 p.m. After taking my order, the server asked me to have a seat in the waiting area up front where the palm plants are. While I was waiting, a Christmas tree was dragged into the area, the palm plant was pushed to the side and they started getting ready to set the tree up, boxing me into the corner. There wasn't room for the 3 people putting up the tree, the benches, the palm plant and me. I politely said, "excuse me", stepped over the tree and went and stood by the register. If they had asked if I could move over to one side or even had said they were going to put up the tree, I wouldn't have minded moving at all. The fact that it was just done and I had to move or be trampled really did not leave me all warm and fuzzy about Cocos Lokos. I did tell my server that I thought the behavior rude and he was very apologetic.

The food was very good, but I haven't been back because I was so steamed over the Christmas tree incident. My blood pressure is already starting to rise, recounting the story. :x  :? Wasn't going to say a thing about it, but you asked about our experiences and so here it is.

The service has been fantastic and the food great.

It might just be me, but maybe you could bump up the Caribbean flavors just a tad.

I didn't get much Caribbean flavor from the Churrasco and Lechon Adobado. They were both good, but I like my flavors on the heavy side.

The Tamarindo Wings delivered on the flavor.

I am part of a group who eat lunch out every day after working out at the gym...no doubt undoing all the good we just did (I prefer to think we balance...). We have eaten at your place twice, and every one of us was more than pleased with everything ordered. It was unanimous that we place you on our regular rotation. We tried several things, and loved them all. So far, the front runner for most of us is the lomo saltado. The menu choices are great and both servers we have has were very helpful. We look forward to visiting often.

We've only been once, but loved it. I posted about our experience. We'll be back, for sure. If only you were closer to the Highlands. . .

My only time @ Cocos Lokos was very good. I had the Coconut Shrimp over Pasta. It was a very nice change to have this in J-town; seeing as this is my end of town during business hours. I welcome more places out this way to liven up the place.

Ditto what Justin said and ditto on the lomo saltado. I ask for the fries on the side and crisp and got them done perfectly. GREAT dish!

We had dinner there tonight - loved it. My daughter had the Cubano sandwich, hubby had the coconut shrimp pasta, and I had the lechon adobado. Large portions, and we had to take some home! We definitely will put it in our rotation - it'll be tough choosing between them and Shalimar when we head in that direction.

It wasn't very busy, though, on a Saturday night - maybe because of the rainy weather, or the holidays (people at parties?), although we were there a little early, like at 6:00. I sure hope business is good. I want it to be around for a long time.

My daughter and I had lunch there last week. The only complaint was that we were seated right by the door, yet there were plenty of open tables elsewhere. I began to ask for another seat and the man kind of threw down the menus and walked away. It was a bit cold there and I would choose the room opposite the entry room if possible.

The food and service were terrific. I LOVED the fresh spinach empanadas. Those were the best empanadas I've ever had. My daughter had the chickens and vegetables on a skewer. Chicken was tender and tasty- a good sized filling lunch. Since she hates beans, I got the delicious black beans . I also had the mussels, which were plum and tasty, but I prefer them warm. Presentation was nice. We will definitely return...I could eat those empanadas every day!

Hey Rick..Missed you last night, how did you swing getting off New Years Eve?
Any way just wanted to report on last evenings experience. It was off the chain.
We treated another couple to your fine restaurant and I believe you'll be seeing them on a regular basis as well. We started with both kinds of Empanadas and the Ceviche Mixto. I have to admit as a die hard carnivore, I think I like Spinach and Portabella Empanadas better than the Picadillo but both were amazing. The Ceviche was great as well with a nice spicy, citrusy balance and accompaniments.
My wife had a Mai Thai as the rest of us enjoyed a pitcher of Sangria and both were absolutely phenomenal.
For entrees I had the Pina Loka, great dish with nice presentation, my wife had the Lechon Adobado, and our freinds had the Cubano Sandwich and the Pollo Guisado. Everything was delicious, top notch and presented well considering how busy it was. The service was a little spotty at times but our guests didn't notice as we were enjoying the food and company so much.
Keep up the good work guys. Looking forward to the next visit!
