NABC/Schlafly Christmas Ale Showdown @ Selena's

by Scott_Shreffler » Mon Dec 14, 2009 1:58 am

Just wanted to let you all know about a cool event that will be taking place this weekend at Selena's at Willow Lake. Schlafly and NABC have been comrades for some time now (We just recently brewed the first of what will hopefully be many collaboration beers). Its that mutual respect and admiration that has spawned a bit of friendly competition. Beginning Friday 12/18 when they open for lunch, and continuing until close on Saturday night 12/19, you will be able to come to Selena's at Willow Lake and try both NABC and Schlafly's Christmas beers. $5 will get you a half pint samples of each. From there, you can cast your vote for your favorite. Once you finish the tastes, you can buy a pint of either for $4/pint (or, buy a pint of each, as long as you have arranged for a ride home). Then, to finish off the event, John Campbell of NABC and I will be at Selena's from 8-10 on Saturday to hand out various types of swag. And, of course, we'll be drinking a few pints ourselves. Here's a little info on the beers themselves:

NABC's Naughty Claus is a 7% Winter Warmer, brewed with lots of Belgian Malts and Belgian Candi Sugar, then spiced with Rose Hips, Ginger Roots and Cinnamon Sticks. Draft of this beer, from what I've heard, is very limited. So, this will be one of the only places in town to try this fantastic beer.

Schlafly's Christmas Ale is an 8% Amber Ale, brewed with Brown Sugar, Orange Peel and Clove. We then Dry-Hop the beer with Chinook Hops that impart a very nice Piney character. Draft of this beer went quickly, and Selena's is one of the last places in the city to find this beer on draft.

Roger, if I have left anything out, or forgotten anything about the Naughty Claus, feel free to chime in.

Hope to see lots of you out there this weekend to support these two breweries, as well as this fantastic restaurant. Cheers, all.

I think that summarizes it aptly, Scott. My only regret is that I'll be on an airplane at that time, and can't join in the fun. 8)

And it does sound like fun ...

Sorry you can't join us, Roger. You'll be missed. But, John and I will try to take up the slack left by your absence. Safe travels...

I'll be out and about with some beer drinking friends, I will do my best to sway us in that direction.
