NABC Solidarity at BoomBozz, this Wednesday.

by Roger A. Baylor » Sun Dec 13, 2009 3:44 pm

BoomBozz Taphouse will be tapping a keg of Solidarity, NABC's Baltic Porter, this Wednesday (Dec. 16) at 6:00 p.m.

Solidarity, named to honor the independent Polish trade union movement in the 1980's, is neither as big nor as hoppy as Hoptimus, but it's deceptively poundable at 8.5%. I'll be at BoomBozz for the event, and to see if there's the perfect BoomBozz pie/toppings to match Baltic Porter. I'm thinking little fishies ...

I'm not posting this just to promo our beer, but because I want to show these guys some love. Since BoomBozz first opened, the draft selection at BoomBozz has gotten progressively better, and it's the kind of place now that I don't hesitate to recommend even if you don't like Hoptimus or one of our brands, because there's diversity in pizza sauces and toppings, and diversity in beers to match. Last time there, I had pizza with garlic and onion, and chipotle sauce, paired with Hoptimus, and it was a true flavor explosion.

For me, the coming Wednesday's really about finding the perfect pizza for Baltic Porter, so if you're out and about, drop in and lend a palate to the cause of good beer with good food.

We will be there! Does anyone know if Happy Hour will be going on then? I know its starts at 3pm everyday, but not sure when its ends? Roger is it true that this is an exclusive beer from you?

Yes, the beer is brewed exclusively by Roger and the New Albanian Brewing Company. It can also be found at the Youngstown Cigar Shop's Cafe, NABC itself, and Liquor Barn, among other locales.

I couldn't agree more. The beer menu there is leagues ahead of where it was early on, and it shows no signs of stopping its inexorable advance.

I think Paul answered this for you. Come Back Inn in Jeff had it on for a while (I'm guessing it is now depleted there, maybe not), and perhaps Nachbar, too. Not much of Solidarity has made it outside the two NABC locations.

I've been thinking about pizza options for tonight's NABC Solidarity tapping at BoomBozz Taphouse, and currently my taste is running toward garlic cream sauce, bacon, anchovies and prosciutto. Baltic Porters like meat, the more strongly flavored the better; if BoomBozz had duck, I'd try that. I believe that our Solidarity can be taught to co-exist quite well with garlic, so I may add fresh garlic to the pie. At any rate, there's no better way to learn than to dive right in, and I'll let you know how it went.

It was fun ... I'm sorry I couldn't stay longer.

My chpoice of pizza worked pretty well, all told. There was a pleasing, mellow vibe between the cream and the malt, but with anchovies rocking my world, sometimes it was a tad overwhelmed.

I'll just have to try again ...

It was good to see you & Jo. I'm glad I finally made it to the Taphouse. The pie was great, the room is very nice and most importantly, the draft list. The Missus and I will return.
