I opted for Fast Break in Crestwood and had one of the more pleasant dining experiences I've ever had.
Even though the inside was pretty full I was able to sit with my newspaper outside at a tiny table just perfect for me alone. Ordered wings and a beer from Devon (?). He was very attentive without fawning like some servers are when they deal with a lone diner.( Fawning makes me uncomfortable, as if the server feels they need to overcompensate for the fact that I'm alone. )The wings were ...somehow...exactly what I was craving. They had a nice, vinegary twang to them. Nice and meaty. Beer was cold, weather was perfect even if the view of Crestwood's Central Ave was a bit dull. I was visited by an off duty waitress who was still there after her shift had ended earlier. She offered to clear away dirty dishes so that I might read my paper with ease. This thoughtful gesture added to the amost family like feeling of the place.
All in all it's the simple things that added to the evening - a friendly atmosphere, pleasant, knowledgeable and attentive staff and of course good food. I think I may have found my favorite regular place.
