$20 bottle of Shiraz

by Matthew D » Mon Dec 07, 2009 10:01 pm

Hey gang,

I'm looking for suggestions on an inexpensive bottle of Shiraz or something similar. I like wines that have a lot of attitude -- the straight bourbon or the double-IPA of the wine world, if you will. I know I'm supposed to go to the local shop and ask "what would you suggest?" I'm looking, though, for that bottle of wine you've had recently that you'd recommend.

Vielen Dank.

Try either a bottle of Mollydooker's The Boxer Shiraz or (not sure what the winery is)The Guilty Shiraz. Might be a tad over $20, but great wines, nonetheless. I believe both of thse wines can be bought at Old Town. Anyway, these should fit the bill, based on what you said you like.

I know you would prefer a personal recommendation, but for my money I'm going to John Johnson at the Wine Rack on Frankfort Avenue. Many times John has suggested an inexpensive bottle in lieu of a more expensive recommendation. His batting average with us is about .995 - definitely a hall-of-fame performance.

Another plus on the Mollydooker The Boxer Shiraz. We retail it for $24.99, but it is on our tasting this Thursday, so it will be on sale for $21.99 that day.

Another one that I really like is the Langmeil Valley Floor Shiraz. Big and bold. It retails for $22.49 at my shop.

I went with "The Guilty" by Shinas Estate. I'll report back after it is consumed.

Went to Old Town and had great service. Chose between The Guilty, the Mollydooker line, and Passport (?). I forgot the name but will remember it when I see it. The Mollydooker looks interesting, so I look forward to having it.
