Cafe Lou Lou formally announces St. Matthews move

by Robin Garr » Thu Jun 07, 2007 9:59 am

Old news to forumites, but this news release just in makes it official and outlines a few details:

<b>Café Lou Lou relocating to St. Matthews site July 9</b>

(Louisville, KY) Chef Clay Wallace and co-owner Helen Ellis announce the relocation of Café Lou Lou. The new location will open July 9 at 106 Sears Avenue, one block off Shelbyville Road. The last day for the Frankfort Avenue location will be June 30.

“Parking is the main reason for the move,” Wallace said. “We’ll have at least 60 parking spots at the new place. We love the Clifton/Crescent Hill area but look forward to customers being able to pull right in to the lot at the new spot.”

The new location was the former Asiatique Restaurant but is being redone in the bold colors and with the large art pieces from the Frankfort Avenue spot. The menu will continue to be Mediterranean/Italian with a strong New Orleans influence.

Reservations can be made for both spots by calling 893-7776.

I am happy for them if this helps business, but I never had any trouble finding parking at the old location. There were always tons of spots on the street in front of the restaurant or across the street.

Same here during the day, although it can be a little tougher at night - especially Friday and Saturday - when Lou Lou, Maido and North End are all going full tilt.

I'm still a little uneasy about the change, though. Lou Lou seems so quintessentially Clifton, it doesn't feel like quite as comfy a fit in even the close-in 'burbs.

I hope something good will fill in the old Clifton space. Handicap access is a real problem there, but the venue is still cool.

Nononono! I wish you ALL the best, Clay! And I know you'll present great food in a great setting. Let the record reflect that.

I'm just saying you guys were so quintessentially Clifton, it's hard to imagine you in postwar suburban country.

But I'll get used to it I know ...

where exactly is the new space. I mean, in typical Louisville style, what did it used to be?

In the Asiatuque (sp) location. Basically a neighbor to Equus.

Catty corner to where Thornberry Toy's was & Sears & Roebuck building. Became a Liberty Bank branch. :D

In other words, it is a true representation of that all-time Louisville classic. It really IS "right across the street from where the old Sears used to be."

perfect, I got it now. The McVitties reference was entirely too recent.

See you July 9th Clay. Great food is great food in Clifton or St. Matthews. The area has been pretty good to Equus, Havana Rumba, and Del Frisco's. You're in good company. Laissez le bon temp roulez.

I'm not Clay, but Clay's news release at the top of this thread said:

"<I>The new location will open July 9 at 106 Sears Avenue, one block off Shelbyville Road. The last day for the Frankfort Avenue location will be June 30.</I>"
