1st Annual Highlands Beer Festival

by Carol C » Mon Nov 30, 2009 10:19 pm

We were in the ValuMarket at Mid City Mall today and saw this poster about the 1st Annual Highlands Beer Festival. It is Saturday, Dec. 5 from 4-9 P.M. at their Mid City Mall (1250 Bardstown Rd.) location and apparently presented by them and involving all our local breweries--Brownings, BBC, KY Ale, NABC, Cumberland Brews and Schlafly (know they are from St. Louis) plus about 45-50 other very good craft brewers.

Details are: $5 admission-First 500 receive their own pint glass; $1 per 3 oz. pour; food available from ValuMarket Deli, Boombozz Pizza, Flannigan's Ale House and Sergio's World of Beers.

Admission proceeds to benefit the STAR Autism Treatment Program.

I'm in no way involved but think it is great to see so many of our local establishments coming together for such an event. Should couple well with Bardstown Rd. Aglow. We are certainly looking forward to it!!!

Why would they do this during Bardstown Road Aglow?

Saturnalia on Friday and this on Saturday? This is shaping up to be a good weekend!

Also, on Friday night, Schlafly and the Louisville Beer Store are putting on a Cask Night/Tasting. We'll have 2 different casks of Winter ESB (one with Simcoe & Columbus Hops and one with Willamette Hops). And, we'll be tasting Christmas Ale, Grand Cru, Biere de Garde and a four year vertical ('06-'09) of Oak-Aged Barleywine. It'll be $2 to try all four beers (actually 7 beers with the four years of Barleywine). Everything starts @ 9. So, four big beer events this weekend. Would that be a Superfecta?

Superfecta? True, although I'll note that Saturnalia will last for weeks, so let's extend this through Monday of the following week ...

A fine beer may be judged with only one sip, but it's better to be thoroughly sure.
