...but someone told me what it was and said I should add it to the menu.

Your thoughts?

One of the big food magazines, I think it was Saveur, just had an article on Poutine; I must say it did not whet my appetite.
I wanred to post the link, but couldn't find it. Give me plain old crispy Fries any day.

Gary, I'm with you....while living in Tennessee, I had the opportunity to try it on one of my "Back Roads" ventures outside of Chattanooga on one of my day trips from Nashville. If I want to harden the arteries, I can think of better ways to do it.

If you can do it right then why not? In other words poutine can be yuckie with poor ingredients--especially the gravy. But with tasty gravy and cheese it can be a nice change. It is an instituion in Quebec. And Quebecers are thin!!!!! Go figure.....

I must say that I love poutine. My wife is from Canada, and I always have to get it once on our annual summer vacation there. The key is definitely in the cheese. You need to use actual cheese curds, not shredded cheese. Double frying the fries is also essential as they remain crispy longer.

Its definitely a heart attack waiting to happen, but if its hot and fresh, one that makes you think it may be worth it!!

Its on my list of thing I have to try. Gravy fries are big on the east coast (Baltimore for me) and I love them and wish more places around here would try it. Poutine? I say go for it. You'd be the first!

If it's fries/chips with gravy you are looking for might I suggest Molly Malone's in St. Matthews - they have chips with curry sauce on the evening menu. Yum!

I've never actually had poutine. Knowing what little I do about it, though, I would hesitate to order it from a primarily delivery/carryout establishment. I DO think that Danny Mac's pizza happens to rock, but I can't imagine a dish like poutine would arrive so freshly at my door without getting some serious fry sogginess.

I agree w/Lori - I wouldn't want to order it take-out or delivery. But it also doesn't appeal to me. I like my fries crispy, and although I love gravy and cheese, I would want the gravy for dipping, and the cheese on your pizza! :)

I am currently going to school in Nashville and one of the eating hotspots for college students is Cafe Coco. Poutine is a regular side dish at the place and people love it. I had never heard of it before I started going there and its description can make some weary. But I ordered it and absolutely loved it. Honestly, I don't think the dish is that weird or nasty sounding. They advertise the dish all over the restuarant and most people order it just to say they have had this uncommon dish. My experience is that most people are surprised to find out how much they like it. I say go for it...just reading this thread makes me want to go get some!

You know, you could do your own variation on the theme...

A poutine pizza stick kinda thing. Pizza dough grissinis or sticks with a nice country gravy dipping sauce, that is topped with the cheese curds.

The sticks could be rolled flat-crust style and baked crispy, actually, so that you may get into the dippin sauce.

The sauce could be served in a 3-5 oz ramekin.

When one thinks about it, having those products on hand could lead to some truly original pizzas... Country fried steak calzone/stromboli, anyone?

I think I'm starting to get hungry!

I was in Montreal a few years ago and had poutine a few times. Thought I'd died and gone to heaven. I vote yes!
