HAPPY TURKEY DAY (albeit a bit early)

by Bill Veneman » Wed Nov 25, 2009 12:49 pm

My dear fellow foodies: As I wind down my work week and get ready for a festive 4 day weekend, I wanted to take time to reflect on things since my last Thanksgiving greeting of '08.

Many things have come to pass in the last year, and each one of them I've seemed come out on a brighter, more optomic side. With family and friends by my side, I've been truely blessed.

I hope and pray this for each and everyone Thanksgiving will be blessed with family, good friends, and of course good food (I've got a 24 lb. bird thawing in the fridge).

I raise the wine glass to you and bid you all peace!
If life's a Banquet, what's with all the Tofu?

Cheers!

Yes, Happy Turkey Day to all!!!

Personally, I may or may not be going to the in-laws, but in any case I'll be eating a plate with un-turkey (yes, a soy product), some kind of homemade stuffing, mashed sweet potatoes, and vegan gravy. Probably some green stuff too, I suspect.

Be good ya'll. Drive carefully, too many crazies out there on the roads......

A very happy Thanksgiving to all our forum pals! We'll be enjoying two Thanksgiving feasts tomorrow and not doing a lick of work. (Well, not quite true ... Mary and I helped do a lot of the veggie prep work for a banquet for 160 for tomorrow afternoon ... but no work on the holiday, and we'll let other people serve us. :)

Here's my version of the same joke:

As an aside, I am about to start making Marsha's bourbon creamed corn and Gary's savory bread pudding to take my family tomorrow (using Gary's method of extra roasted garlic, sans leeks). Gobble gobble gobble!

Yes, indeedy, a most happy, blessed and restorative Thanksgiving Day to all my LHB friends. I thank you for your continuing friendships.

And now I think it is time for me to start prepping and cooking. On the schedule for this evening, making the brine for the turkey, prepping the wild mushroom and wild rice dressing, preparing the apple and cranberry chutney, and making the beef and barley soup with wild mushrooms and parsnips (for Friday lunch).

Bill.... thanks for starting this thread. Things have taken a bad turn in our home and it has been difficult for me to find my spirit. As i read everyone posts it made me feel good inside and reflect and realize that my family IS STILL blessed. I'm also very thankful that this forum is here, it is a place that i come to kind of hide out for a few minutes.

Gayle, i have been prepping all day. I made some simple dip and a veggie tray. Have everything chopped up for my stuffing tomorrow, have my cornbread that i will need for it also. My husband and mother snapped green beans for me and i had ham hocks simmering all day. I just finished putting them in the slow cooker with the ham hock meat all nicely seasoned up. I will turn them on before bed tonight. I also made 10 pounds of mashed potatoes, those are ready to go as well.

I am trying to get mentally prepared to go and make a couple of pumpkin pies, and apple pie, and a cheesecake. I am cheating on the cheesecake though, it will be one of the no-bake types.

hmmm.....i guess i have been busy.
