Jason Noble Fundraiser Saturday at the 930

by Leslie Stewart » Fri Nov 20, 2009 6:51 am

My former ear X-tacy co-worker, Jason Noble, is battling a rare form of cancer and his expensive treatments (including trips to Houston) are draining his savings. The Louisville music community owes much to Jason and is pitching in with a huge benefit concert tomorrow, November 21st, at the 930 Building (more info at www.earx-tacy.com/home or www.caringbridge.org/visit/jasonnoble). Part of the event will be a silent auction, at which my very first personal chef service will be one of the donated items. I'm excited and humbled that this will be my first "job" after graduating from Sullivan in a few weeks as one of their first recipients of the new Personal/Private Chef diplomas (as well as an associates degree in Professional Catering). This particular service will be winner's choice of a 5-course sit-down vegetarian meal for up to six people or a cocktail buffet (also vegetarian) for up to a dozen people, cooked and served in the winner's home. The cost of food is included, and the bidding will start at $50. I'd love to see some music-loving foodies come out for this worthy cause!

(Thanks, Robin, for your unfailing generosity for supporting such endeavors!)

I'll be there bidding. No one has done more for the music scene in Louisville than Jason - as musician in Rodan, Rachel's, and Shipping News and as supporter of other musicians. He is a writer and film maker. Above all, he is a kind and gentle soul. He deserves the community's support.

Sorry I missed this. I went to school with Jason, his is a great guy. I hope he gets well, he is in the best hand out there. My father went to MD Anderson and is now a survivor.

It was a great show and a great turnout. I don't know how much they raised or if they even put a dent in Jason's medical bills but it was nice to see such support.

Between the gate, the silent auction, the concessions, etc., they raised over $15,OOO. It was a tremendous, powerful show. The Web, the local opening act absolutely stunning at times. I saw Albini watching them intently. Apparently they formed about 10 years ago but disbanded. I don't know what this gig signals.

I scored a great Arcade Fire poster print and won a gift certificate from Cherry Bomb.

As someone said, Louisville's musicians take care of their own. It's too bad we don't have health care to take care of everyone. And, yes, this is just a drop in bucket for Jason's bills.

Oh, and they announced there will be another fundraiser concert in January at Headliners - Wax Fang, Lucky Pineapple, Second Story Man and more.

This was a great show, lots of fun, and raised a fair amount of coin for Jason and his family.

The Web actually played their first reunion gig last year at the Pour Haus, opening for Cleveland legends Pere Ubu. The Web only plays sporadically now, as Andy the guitarist lives in Boston, and Tony the vocalist lives in New York. Supposedly they are completing a new album, though I haven't heard any firm dates from them as to when it might be released.

Personally, I thought their performance was great, but that the sound was a little off. That was in no way due to the band, but to what I'd gather was an inexperienced soundperson. Either way, it was still definitely fun.

Nice to hear the Web back in action - they were one of the earlier ear X-tacy label artists, so there's a nice connection. I'm thrilled with the results of the auction!

I ran into Scott Carney of Wax Fang today and he said the Headliners fundraiser will be Jan 29. In addition to Wax Fang, Second Story Man, and Lucky Pineapple, the concert will feature DW Box (she can be great) and the overthetop UltraPulverize (Beastie Boys meets Devo and Kraftwerk. Love those guys).

This is great to hear, and should be a fantastic show. Lucky Pineapple and UltraPulverize are my two favorite locals.

By the way, Ken, nice description of UP - tough to describe, and I think your description might be the best and most accurate I've seen.
