The "Butcher Block" - a Kaluha & Cream type drink with vodka (maybe) and topped with chocolate shavings. The place to be on Friday nights in the early to mid-eighties - when I was young and single!

Broken sidewalk had an article yesterday about this project. That may be where your friend heard about it. It looks exciting, here's a link to the article: The Blind Pig

If I remember correctly, the Butcher Block is basically a White Russian with tequila instead of vodka. Marianne at the Back Door makes an excellent Butcher Block using tequila. Kinda tastes like butterscotch.
Is that a raw fish in your pocket or are you just glad sashimi?

I remember always ordering one extra Butcher Block in a roadie or to go cup to take with me to the next bar. How did I survive those days?

Yes, those were the days! To the best of my husband's and my recollection this was the "recipe" for a Butcher Block:
Fill a 16-oz glass with ice. Add a large shot of Kamora and a large shot of tequila. Fill the rest of the glass with Half-n-half. Shake vigorously. Add a dash of nutmeg on top.
Salud! :D
When in doubt, add more wine.

Really excited about the Blind Pig. Apparently Joe Frase is involved, he was at El Mundo for many years and is a swell guy, as well as a very talented chef.

There is a bar in the warehouse district of Cleveland called The Blind Pig ( walking distance to stadium ) but I do not remember if they serve food ? I wonder if there is some connection ?

A fine beer may be judged with only one sip, but it's better to be thoroughly sure.

From Wikipedia:
Blind pigs

The term blind pig (or blind tiger) originated in the United States in the 1920s; it was applied to establishments that sold alcoholic beverages illegally. The operator of an establishment (such as a saloon or bar) would charge customers to see an attraction (such as an animal) and then serve a “complimentary” alcoholic beverage, thus circumventing the law.

“In desperate cases it has to betake itself to the exhibition of Greenland pigs and other curious animals, charging 25 cents for a sight of the pig and throwing in a gin cocktail gratuitously.”[2]

The difference between a speakeasy and a blind pig was that a speakeasy was usually a higher-class establishment that offered food, sex, music or live entertainment, or even all three. In large cities, some speakeasies even required a coat and tie for men, and evening dress for women. But a blind pig was usually a low-class dive where only beer and liquor were offered.

Now you know.
