local organic meat CSA

by John Hagan » Wed Nov 18, 2009 2:28 pm

I realize this may be posted in the wrong section. Garr can move it if hes sees fit.

A short time ago I posted something about our meat CSA and was asked to provide more info. I just got the email with the current prices and availability. For those that are not familiar a CSA stands for community supported agriculture. Basically by paying the farmer upfront for the goods they sell, they offer you a better price than you would get through a regular retail format. The farmer we go with is Adam Barr of Barr Farms. They raise grass fed beef that is organic as well as being raised in a humane and sustainable manner. Before we signed up I asked Adam all about how the beef is handled from field to butcher. I was very impressed in the level of safety and cleanliness as well as their very humane treatment of the animals. I will do my best to post the spread sheet I have here. If you have any questions, Adams contact info will be on one of the sheets I post here.

There is a an instruction form here
The spread sheet may look funny as I am not sure how to copy that here.
Scroll down and you should see it.
Adams contact info is here as well. Just ask and Im sure he will email you the spread sheet order form.
Again sorry for my lame attempt at getting this posted.

BARR FARMS – MEAT CSA

Community Supported Agriculture (CSA) means our community invests in BARR FARMS to allow us to raise healthy animals on a sustainable scale, while caring for the land and each other. The CSA provides security to both community members and farmers by putting us in direct relationship to each other.

A MEAT CSA is a new concept where community members pay for a share of the animals harvested on our farm. We adapted the concept of a vegetable CSA where members pay in advance and receive a harvest of seasonal vegetables each week during the growing season.

MEAT CSA MEMBER BENEFITS

 Members understand our meat is raised on a healthy, sustainable family farm.
 Members receive specially selected cuts of meat.
 Members enjoy 100% GRASS FED meat that is marbled, lean and tasty.
 Members know our meat contains NO anti-biotics, steriods or hormones.
 Members enjoy a DISCOUNT from the retail price.

MEAT CSA STRUCTURE

Currently, we offer Grass-finished Beef and Grass-Fed Chicken.
The MEAT CSA runs in 3 month increments, with delivery on a monthly basis.
Members agree to pay for the full 3 month session prior to first delivery.

IMPORTANT NOTE: The amount of each meat cut purchased will be a bit more or less depending on the size of the prepackaged cuts. FOR EXAMPLE, if you choose one 3.0 lb chicken each month, you may receive a 3.2 lb chicken one month and a 2.8 lb chicken the next month. We believe this CSA-style flexability benefits both the farmer and member.

ORDER FORM INSTRUCTIONS
1) Open the Excel File (you may request a paper copy).
2) Half chickens and all Beef Roasts in 2 lb increments. Steaks in 1 lb increments
3) Enter the cut of meat, quantity and price per pound in the columns indicated. The spreadsheet should do the math for you.
4) Fill out your contact information.

John, thanks. We're interested in this. I guess this section is as good as any, since it's about buying food for consumption.

I'll sent Mary a copy ... we might very well want to take a share.

Also, would you like to send me the spreadsheet to rgarr@louisvillehotbytes.com - I may (or may not) be able to figure some way to put it where people can get it in original form.
