Shady Lane Cafe

I went with a group of ladies and two littles ones to Shady Lane Cafe for dinner this evening. I had never tried it but kept reading all the great reviews and persuaded the girls to try something new. I know I've always said that Uptown Cafe has the best burger--I stand by that. However, this burger was pretty darn delicious and the homemade chips and cake were tasty too. The chef (I'm thinking the owner), cashier, and server were very kind. If you haven't tried this place, try it the next time someone gives you the chance to decide on a restaurant. I don't think you'll be disappointed. :)

This place is on my list of about 10 other places I've been told that I must try. I've heard nothing but good things recently, they may have just moved to the top.

Finally made it down to Shady Lane (for lunch) today. Quaint little place and without a doubt one of the best cheeseburgers I've had since coming to L'ville. I was a bit disappointed in the chili, I may be wrong but it was remarkably similar to chili I've tasted that came out of a can marked "Hormel".

Thank you folks for the kind comments regarding our food at the Shady Lane. One thing I can assure you is that none of our soups are ever out of a can, bag, box, etc... we make all our own soups and have had many of them featured in the paper. Here is the one little itty bitty problem. The one day I don't actually come into the Cafe is on Mondays. We have a young Sullivan Grad who steps up to the plate and tries her hand at the soups. Her white Chili has been praised, but I guess she might have dropped the ball on the Chili. Please come back and try (MY CHILI) any day this winter. Once the weather turns I have it every day. Along with Mushroom, White Bean and Sausage, Gumbo, Tomato Basil, Chicken Noodle and others.
Once again, thank you all for the positive vibes. Please come by at night and check out our specials, they are very diverse and rock the house for a reasonable price. We are also starting to do some more catering.
Serving Goodness All Day.
Yours,
Bill and Susi Smith

PS. I called about the Starlight Location as I think it would be a no brainer to make it a million dollar a year upscale diner/drive-in and was told by the real estate company that it was not deeded to be a food establishment. Wow. He said the I could take the neighbors to court if I thought it was unfair, but didnt hold out much hope. And I'm thinking what neighbors? The few houses backing up to it from Hubbards Lane? Oh well.

The neighbors are in the small city of Richlawn, so that would be a bunch if the city decides to fight a change.

Alan and I had the wonderful opportunity to go and have breakfast Saturday morning at Shady Lane Cafe. We were greeted first by Susanne with a wonderful smile and explaination of the days specials and once we got the introductions done, foodie to foodie, we ordered---Me, Brie and Pesto Omlette (OH MY LORD was it good) and Alan, breakfast plate (pronouced "wonderful")....we were able to visit a bit with both Susanne and Bill. It was a grand way to start off on our Saturday errands.

Our thanks to the Smiths'

Cheers!
