OFF TOPIC: H1N1 Drive Thru at Papa John's

by Bill Veneman » Thu Nov 12, 2009 8:51 am

I had the rather surprisingly painless and efficient experience of going getting my shot yesterday at Papa John's. I left the office at 4:30, and headed down 3rd, the Cardnal Blvd. Aside from turning the wrong way on Floyd and having to do a bit of a backtrack, getting to where I needed to be was a breeze.

Now, once I got into the "maze" of the parking lot, I was about an hour until I got up to get my shot. Everyone I encountered had a smile on their face, was extreamly polite and from what I saw was very patient.

One piece of advice if you decide to go and do today....don't be in a rush. Sometimes the line didn't seem to move at all....but when you get up to the shot site, it moves very quickly.

Parking your car and walking into the "clinic" is the fastest way to be served. Metro Health managed to put together a well run operation (with alot of help from UL, EMA, LMPD, LMEMS) out at Papa Johns.

Tarc is offering FREE Shuttles. The buses will be running again Thursday to get people to the clinic, which is scheduled from 8 a.m. to 8 p.m. or until the vaccine is gone. To get the shot or the mist, you must have a signed copy of the H1N1 consent form, which can be obtained at the clinic or in advance at www.louisvilleky.gov/health.

The news last night said that yesterdays program inoculated more people in one given day than any other vaccination program EVER , anywhere on earth. A new Guiness record. Pretty impressive I think.

I am very happy that the flu shot delivery worked out so well. I am sure a lot of good folks did all they could to make this happen. What I am wondering, though, at first the city was saying that these shots were for high risk people only. I heard that the shots were being given on the "honor" basis. Did these shots actually go to the most needy or does anyone know if it just turned into a free giveaway for anyone who went. Just curious about how our government is spending our money. Any info would be appreciated.

As far as spending money...

From what I understand, no one was turned away at these inoculations. They were available to anyone. Which, in my opinion, is perfectly fine as long as they are not denying people in need/risk for those with money.
