Old Seelbach Bar

by C. Devlin » Sun Jun 03, 2007 2:39 am

For our 11th wedding anniversary, my husband and I enjoyed a fabulous dinner at Seviche and then enjoyed an equally fabulous few sets of jazz at the Old Seelbach Bar. Spoke to the keyboard guy for a bit who mentioned there's a couple of weeks' jazz event happening there the end of June but which apparently isn't publicized. The band is really good. Really good. And even though there's no dance floor to speak of, my husband and I managed a lovely anniversary dance anyway to a special request which the band beautifully accommodated. We were really pleased by the whole venue and we're going to make a point of enjoying it again.

Dick Sisto (keyboards and vibes) was talking about the Jamey Aebersold jazz camp that takes place at UofL. He brings in really fine national artists to teach, and they play concerts at night (usually for Masterson's) primarily for students, but the community is invited. Dick also books the artists to play at the Seelbach with his trio. It is a great opportunity to hear headliner-type artists in an intimate setting (not to forget the Jazz Factory, of course).

The great part about it, too, is that Jamey Aebersold has been a force in the Smoke Free Louisville campaign. The Seelbach Bar will soon be smoke free just like the Jazz Factory and won't that be a wonderful change!

Amen. The smoke usually keeps me out of there. And, Jamey has been a force for nonsmoking for years - ever see him drag his lung into a room full of school children? He's merciless....

Well that's good news. There weren't many smokers last night, so we were pretty comfortable and I remarked on it later. I hate washing my hair of an evening only to have to wash it immediately again because I'm surrounded by smokers.

I didn't realize that was Dick Sisto. :o
