Macca's "Gone Fishin'"?

by Robin Garr » Tue Nov 10, 2009 2:14 pm

The Westport Village sports bar was reported locked up tight last night with a "gone fishin'" sign on the door. Anyone have a clue what they really mean by that?

One of the reps from Southern I saw last night said they closed up for good.
Not for sure, but it is his account

A fine beer may be judged with only one sip, but it's better to be thoroughly sure.

From a former manager, they are closed.

I'll guess food reasons. I thought their food was about as good as Red Lobster, not very.

Agree. I thought Red Lobster had a leg up in terms of quality. An independant doing a relatively poor job of imitating a chain...not a wining concept in this case. I hope something intersting fills that space.

I have a friend who was a server there...when she went to go to work yesterday afternoon, nobody was home all over the place. No call, no announcement, no goodbye and kiss my @ss. BAD business in my book.

Anybody need a hell of a good waitress? I know where you can find one.

Have her post in our Restaurant Jobs forum, Bill. It's been pretty effective for a lot of of folks.

It's a tough judgement call. I consider it ethically dubious, but sadly, a lot of restaurateurs feel that they can't count on an ethical response from staff if they give prior notice and then watch everybody scatter and leave the place unstaffed for what had been planned as the final two weeks. It's a rare place - and a good one - where employer and employees have the kind of relationship where they can trust each other to behave well. I think a lot of the city's better restaurateurs do, but let's hope none of them are closing ...

Exactly.

Not an Independent - They were a chain out of Florida. There was an article in Business first about them before they opened supposed to have been RJ Gators then changed the name.

Kurt, I may be mistaken about this, but I'm pretty sure they were set to open as a link in the RJ Gators chain but then, at the last minute, changed over to Macca's, which was independently operated but reminiscent of its ex-chain in style. Sort of like WW Cousins is an indie begat by Fuddruckers.

You may be right, I am just remembering the article. I don't have a copy and they were not a customer. Seemed like nice people.

Interesting the "Savvy Shopper" I received in the mail on Tuesday had a coupon off for Macca.
