Lunch spots along the bourbon trail?

by TomPerson » Fri Nov 06, 2009 10:24 pm

Any good, great or off the beaten path spots for lunch between Louisville and Loretto (the Makers Mark distiller)y hitting the Jim Beam, Heaven Hill and Makers Mark part of the ttail so all suggestions are welcome. Something casual and any cuisine is fair game.

Tom,

It's very casual, but Bootleg BBQ has some very good BBQ on your way down. Unfortunately, I've not found any place wonderful in Bardstown, but the restaurant below the building where the Oscar Getz museum is pretty decent. Personally, I avoid Talbott Tavern. There is nothing between Heaven Hill and Loretto, so eat before you get that far.

Enjoy!

There is a small place in Bardstown called Mammy's Kitchen that's pretty good. You probably should call and check their hours before you go though.

Mammy's Kitchen
114 N 3rd St
Bardstown, KY 40004-1542
(502) 350-1097

For a good milkshake or banana split try :

Hurst Drugs
102 N 3rd St, Bardstown, KY

Hurst's is a good suggestion- true old time drugstore with lunch counter. Great "road food" experience. Be aware - pretty sure they are closed Sunday.

Yea anytime you are going to Bardstown you should call ahead to check when they are open....Sundays there is very little open downtown and Saturdays they usually close early. :)

Has anybody been to Hawks Place II? We found this place one Sunday but they didn't open until 4:30?? We were wondering if there was any connection to Col. Hawks Place that closed a few years ago.

Maker's Mark also has a nice little cafe at the distillery.
