Andrew, for what it's worth, I'm sending this from my Blackberry.

As noted in the previous post, this forum will definitely work on a Web-enabled handheld.

Moreover, on the wine forums, we have an optional alternate "style" or "skin" that's specifically designed for PDAs. Basically, it's just a highly streamlined format that drops a lot of the icons, bells and whistles in exchange for speed of use. I'll look into whether it's possible to offer it for an option here.

Another option: E-mail it over to me at rgarr@louisvillehotbytes.com - I'll tinker with it for you, and if I can get it down to size, I'll send it back and tell you how I did it.

Leah, how'd you manage that? I've got a number of tiny icon files that I usually use as avatars, and they all range in size from 24k to 60k -- which I always thought would be small enough for anything! :)

Oh, FYI for anyone who's offering me advice -- I'm at work and trapped on a Mac. Help a PC girl out (I only know how to tinker on my home PC; the Mac leaves me dazed and frustrated)!

That's not really all that small for a tiny graphic, Laura. Same offer I made Ethan: If you like, send me the image you want to use for an avatar. I'll try to bring it down to size, and if I succeed, I'll send it back to you and tell you what I did.

Thanks Robin! I was just joking though -- and I'd like to take a crack at figuring it out myself when I've got a few moments. If I hit a wall, though, I may take you up on that offer! If I figure out a method, I'll post it here.

An 80x80 picture is only 6400 pixels... it should be easy to get that under 6k. A 100-quality 24-bit-color JPG at 80x80 should only be 7k or so! (at 8.25 bits per pixel)

As a lurker on your previous site, this has prompted me to register and say "well done"! Looking forward to adding to the discussions and interacting with the 'regulars' who seem like 'old friends'. :D
