Where can we volunteer on Thanksgiving ?

by Steve P » Sat Oct 31, 2009 10:01 am

As things stand right now it would appear that Becky and I will not be spending Thanksgiving with family. That being the case we've decided that we would like to spend our Thanksgiving helping out those who may find themselves struggling this holiday season. Our culinary talents are modest but we can serve food and wash pots and pans with the best of 'em...Does anyone have any idea where talents may be most useful ?

This may seem a little counterintuitive, Steve, but so many charitable organizations get volunteers around Thanksgiving and Christmas, it can be a real boost to some of those places to get an offer of help on just any old day, when volunteers are thin on the ground and there's work to be done.

Not that you wouldn't be welcome at a lot of places on Thanksgiving, I'm sure! And as Annemarie suggests, Wayside is a worthy service provider.

Thanks Robin (and Annemarie) Now that we're all settled in, I'll be going back on the volunteer rolls at the VA hospital soon...So I'm not sure how much "any old day" time I'll have...but you make a good point and it is well taken. I'll check with Wayside ASAP but am also still open to other suggestions. Anyone ?

Hey Steve,
I just read that the community center in LaGrange is looking for help on Thanksgiving.
