Industry Folks - meetup at the Barret Bar tonight!

by Marsha L. » Fri Oct 30, 2009 2:35 pm

It's the end of an era. The Barret Bar, where cooks and servers and restaurant owners have gathered for years, is closing their doors for good tomorrow night. Now, tomorrow night's Halloween, so some of us are planning a pre-memorial gathering there tonight. Industry folks that work tonight probably won't get there until 10 or after, so it'll be kind of late-ish. So take a disco nap and then get up and make your way over to Barret and Winter (Oak) between the Highlands and Germantown. Play pool, eat bar food, enjoy the company of your fellow soldiers and compatriots.

I have spent many a happy hour there playing pool and god knows what all else. I'm getting a little old for the bar scene, but I'm making an exception to commemorate all the great times we all had there, and you should, too!

And even though I'll be coming from home, I'm wearing my checks and a chef's jacket - because that is what I was wearing 90% of the time I crossed that threshold. I just hope I don't cry. Let's give them a grand send-off.

Oh this is terrible to hear. I unfortuantely haven't been in a few months, as I don't get out to the bars as much anymore, but for years BB has been our go-to place when it was one of those "what do we want to do tonight I can't handle Flanagan's/etc.?" nights.

Well priced drinks, pool, and always good music. Very sad.

I might drop in after 2am after the Avett Bros & the show I have happening at DCE. If not I'll have to hit it after midnight on halloween.

Matthew- from what I understand it won't be open after midnite on Halloween- it loses it's liquor license at midnite. : (

A source tells me that they were closed last night due to the water being shut off. I hate to ruin the memorial, but if they don't have the water turned back on, they probably have had their last night. But, apparantly, the owner is trying to sell the bar. Here's hoping that someone who knows and respects the history of that place will buy it and re-open it. Where else am I supposed to spend my Derby night?

I just called - they are open. Apparently, they had scheduled the water to be turned off on Monday after the scheduled closing tomorrow night, and somehow the water company turned it off early, but it got turned back on today for the weekend. I could hear the crowd!

Leaving work and on my way now!
Hope to see some friends there.

We were there for a couple hours - only saw one person we knew. :( Ethan, I hope you have fun. I tipped Mike extra good. He seems sanguine and hopefully someone will buy it and reopen it soon. I'm so sorry we missed you!

I didn't get there until a little after midnight - but had a great time.
Ran into a few old friends, laughed about some stuff with Mike... Got home much later than I intended to.

The place was packed - nice to see such a proper send off.
It did take forever to get a drink (super super busy and 2 bartenders), and they had run out of ice when by the time I did... Which I would say meant they were plenty busy - and wasn't even a bother in the slightest.

Thanks Marsha, we thought about it. We met friends at Asiatique in the lounge for a birthday, and were talking about dropping by Barret one last time, but then next thing we knew it was 2am. . .
