It's the end of an era. The Barret Bar, where cooks and servers and restaurant owners have gathered for years, is closing their doors for good tomorrow night. Now, tomorrow night's Halloween, so some of us are planning a pre-memorial gathering there tonight. Industry folks that work tonight probably won't get there until 10 or after, so it'll be kind of late-ish. So take a disco nap and then get up and make your way over to Barret and Winter (Oak) between the Highlands and Germantown. Play pool, eat bar food, enjoy the company of your fellow soldiers and compatriots.
I have spent many a happy hour there playing pool and god knows what all else. I'm getting a little old for the bar scene, but I'm making an exception to commemorate all the great times we all had there, and you should, too!
And even though I'll be coming from home, I'm wearing my checks and a chef's jacket - because that is what I was wearing 90% of the time I crossed that threshold. I just hope I don't cry. Let's give them a grand send-off.
