Las Gorditas?

by Ginger Harris » Wed Oct 28, 2009 10:01 am

Anyone know what happened to the taco truck at the Eastland Shopping Plaza? I have driven by the past few weekends, but the truck is missing.

Anyone have a good alternative?

I went by there Friday night at like 5 and they weren't there, but went back by at 6:30 and they were there. I remember they used to be there earlier in the day but it seems recently they're setting up later.

I ate there on Sunday, and the Sunday before that, and the Sunday before that... They may be cutting back on their hours now that the weather is getting colder though. If it's excessively rainy or windy, I always call to make sure they're set up. The number is 492-0112.

Thanks, particularly for the phone number. I will call and see when they will be there. I like to go in the middle of the day on the weekends, but that looks out. Well, at least Dak Shin is in the same parking lot.

We went to dinner at Dakshin last night about 6:30 and the truck was there at that time.

Dakshin was great as usual. Good service and brought home enough for lunch today. Two dinners, an app and a dessert for just over 30.00.

I went there tonight and despite cold weather, they were packed. 4 tacos(2chorizo, 2 carnitas) w/cheese and a Mexican Coke for $8.50. I'm stuffed and happy as can be!

Hey there folks! Pat Costas here. Thanks for a great season! Business has been very good thanks to y'all! We will continue to set up on the weekends, Friday Saturday and Sunday. As long as it isn't icy or too much snow or serious winds, we will still show up. We get there usually a little earlier than 4 PM on Fridays however I tell everybody 4 is our opening time. On Saturday and Sunday we open at 3 PM. We are there until 11 PM on Friday and Saturday and 10 PM on Sunday. We have been known to stay later though, I mean if there are still hungry customers and we have food left we are happy to feed them.

On another note, there is a gentleman who has been coming every Sunday around 7 or 8, I don't know his name, but he orders 10 carnitas tacos, one for his dog who loves it, and a burrito. He has not shown for about 5 weeks or so. Does anybody know him, I am a little concerned, just want to make sure everything is okay. If anyone knows please let me know.

Hey Pat! That's me. Everything's ok; we had the swine flu going though the family for the past few weeks and haven't been getting out. I was down for about two weeks, and then my wife had it, and now it's the kids. We should be there next week (the dog really misses it; he won't eat on Sundays now).

Hey Pat, thanks for stopping by! I try to make it at least once a weekend, I usually get 3-4 carnitas tacos and a coke to go. This past Saturday I got a bigger order to eat while my dad and I watched the UK game, he's hooked now!

Out of curiosity, what are your favorite items on your menu? I love the tacos and gorditas but would love to try something new. Keep up the good work!

Hey there Richard. Sorry to hear about the swine flu in the family, that is definitely some nasty stuff! Thank goodness your family is recovering though. I look forward to your visit on Sunday, as I am sure your dog will definitely appreciate not being deprived of a taco for yet another week.

Adam, it is kinda difficult to say what is my favorite item on the menu, because in my biased opinion it is all good. However, I really do like the flour tortilla desebrada or chicharon quesadillas. I guess that would be my favorite. The carnitas tortas however are pretty darned good also. The only thing about the tortas though I would have to say is they are best if eaten right away after being made while they are fresh and hot. Anyway I look forward to seeing all of you this weekend after turkey day.

hey folks! One more thing I wanted to add in regards to our hours. We do have hours for when we are set up for business. However, if a party or some sort of occasion should arise where you are in need of a larger order during our off hours, call us at 502-492-0112 and we could make arrangements to prepare your order and get it to you. Wouldn't be the first time we have done that, and we would be happy to do it again, all we need is a little bit of notice. Thanks

I'm vegetarian, but do eat dairy. Are there enough choices to make a meal for me at your place? Everyone raves about the meat items, and I know I'm not going to partake of those. The elotes may be enough to make the trip from all I've heard about them.

I've had similar questions as Leah. Do the beans have lard in them?

Unfortunately the beans are cooked with lard. However, we can make anything on the menu with just the vegetables. I, not being vegetarian was unaware that cooking beans with lard was against vegetarian preferences.

lard = animal, so not vegetarian friendly, and certainly not vegan friendly. I'd rather know ahead of time than be surprised after I'm there. Vegetarians are fairly easily to work with. Classic combinations of rice and beans (no lard) are a major food for us.
