Avalon Presents an Autumn Beringer Wine Dinner
Wednesday, Nov. 4, 2009

Avalon will host a special Autumn wine dinner featuring Beringer wines and food selections for this time of year.

Beringer's Jim Diana will serve as our sommelier for the evening. A 15-year wine industry expert, Jim will present the wines and walk us through Chef Laurence Agnew's pairing of food and wines specifically selected for the evening.

Wednesday, Nov, 4, at 7 p.m.

$65 per person

SMALL BITES
Sweet potato croquettes with pork shoulder and pecans
deviled eggs with black truffle oil
pastrami cured salmon on rye
Beringer Sauvignon Blanc, Napa Valley

FIRST COURSE
Fennel cream, lobster knuckle & hazelnut salad, orange confit
Beringer Chardonnay, Napa Valley

SECOND COURSE
Grilled rare tombo ahi tuna,
spaetzle, red wine, onion jam, parsley puree
Beringer Pinot Noir, Napa Valley

MAIN COURSE
Braised pork shank, kale and shell bean stew, thyme-sherry reduction
Beringer Cabernet Sauvignon, Knights Valley

Nice....but where's the Beringer Cabernet Reserve?


Knight's Valley can be dynamite as well. Beringer's white zin used to not be all that bad as it was much dryer than the Sutter Home variety. Been ages since I tasted it.

If you saw that news release before I took the superlative adjectives out of it, you would REALLY be wondering about that. ;)

That said, Beringer is a decent, large winery, and the old German-style homestead is a distinct Napa landmark.

On the other hand, as hard as I try not to be a snob, I just can't do White Zin. Did you notice, though, that this was a sparkling White Zin?

Ahh, Beringer White Zin - what all the sorority girls drank in college. At under $10 bottle, who can blame them?

The sparkling version might not be too bad.

A beautiful tasting room........crammed with tourists!

I despise white zin with the caveat that apparently a substantial number of old zin vines were not removed during the 70s/80s....leaving us red "zinophiles" some great options today.
