Yesterday I was out shopping and running errands. It was a busy, hectic day trying to cram a dozen projects into a few short hours. About 2PM I found myself on Westport Rd, hungry for something simple but not chain food. What the heck? Stop in at Turkey Joe's for a few wings. Nothing extraordinary needed, just body fuel, and wings sounded good.
My server was very nice, efficient, and sincere in her service. Nothing phony, no pasted on, stretched out grin, just a simple , happy smile. I know this may not mean much to some people but I can't stand an obviously phony demeanor. I couldn't make my mind up about which flavor wings I wanted so I ordered 2 sets of 6 each (6 medium and 6 peanut) thinking I could take home 4 or 5 that would be leftover. They came quickly enough. The wings were a bit bigger than I thought they would be. They were great! I think they must have been lightly dusted with a seasoned flour before frying. They were very crispy on the outside - but not battered- and moist hot on the inside with plenty of meat on the bones. Sauces were very good. The medium was flavorful with just enough heat to keep it interesting but not burn my taste buds. The peanut sauce was a tad bit 'gummy' for some reason but the flavor was still very good; exactly what I was looking for. I think I may have to go as far as to say they were the best wings I've ever had. I was delighted with them. Instead of taking home 4 or 5 as leftovers, only 2 made it into a take home box. They were that good.
12 wings, a basket full of celery stalks (albeit short stalks but enough anyway) with 2 cups of decent blue cheese dressing and a good fountain coke cost me $11. I found it to be a good, fair price for a fine lunch even if it wasn't anything fancy. I will, without a doubt, go back.
