Breakfast at Zapata's Corner!

by Mary Anne » Sat Oct 24, 2009 12:09 pm

I think I have a new fave restaurant. :D Stopped in with Dale this morning for breakfast, we had the place pretty much to ourselves. I got the Los Sombreros, two eggs over easy on toast with red sauce and beans and cheese. Really really yummy and only $5.99. Dale got the El Campisino, a vegetarian omelet with veggies beans and rice for $6.50. BTW, their beans here are vegetarian for those who don't partake of meat. My new favorite waiter in my new favorite restaurant is named "P", and like last time the service was so friendly and polite it was amazing. I asked how they were doing and they said they were absolutely slammed last night, so I didn't feel too badly about having the place nearly to myself this morning. They have a fresh stack of take out menus and there are so many things I want to try. They do a Mole Poblano that sounds great and a Crema de Elote soup that sounds like elotes en vaso in a bowl. This may tide me over in my old age when I can't chew corn anymore. They also do a seafood soup Sopa de Mariscos on weekends that has shrimp, fish, scallops , calamari and octopus that sounds delish. This place is worth a try guys...

I don't know the exact address, 12000 something Shelbyville road in Middletown. It's in the same location where Mazzoni's was before they closed, where Furrows lumber used to be, (kind of like using the old Sears for a reference). In the same plaza where Pig City Barbeque is. Haven't been there yet myself but from all the reports I've heard I'll be going there pretty soon!

Zapata's is at 12003 Shelbyville Rd. It is in the little strip mall on the north side of US 60 where Pig City BBQ lives, in Middletown, just a bit west from Evergreen and Shelbyville. The hours are Monday-Thursday, 11a.m. to 10 p.m.; Friday-Saturday, 8 a.m. to 10 p.m.; and Sunday, 8 a.m. to 8 p.m. Breakfast all day I believe.

I went back for lunch today. These people are going to get so sick of seeing me. I'm with food like Keith Richards is with heroin though, if it makes me feel good I want A LOT of it and OFTEN thankyouverymuch. Today I got the Crema de Elote soup...not elotes en vaso in a bowl but a creamy dreamy wonderful corny oniony broth with a bit of cheese and cilantro on top. Worth getting if you are a corn head like me. I also got a Mexican Huarache which consisted of a thick tortilla, not like anything I've ever had before, both crunchy and chewy, kind of like a gordita in texture but not...slathered with beans, a red sauce, cheese, sour cream and, with the advice of my favorite server"P", carne asada. It was really really good. Why can't I get steak at home to taste like this? Too much food but I managed to snarf it all down and wish I had room for more of the soup. Again, lovely friendly service and I do really want to take these dining room chairs home with me, they are so happy. :)
