Pretzels

by Derrick Dones » Sun Oct 18, 2009 11:28 am

Folks, I am heading to a german themed party today. I've got some pork sausages, but was also hoping to pick up some good pretzels and mustard. Any suggestions on a spot to find the best pretzels in the 'ville? Thanks and have a great sunday. DD

Unfortunately, I really don't think there's any place in town or you can get good German pretzels. I'm assuming you're looking for the soft ones like to get it all the beer halls in Munich. Other than the pretzel shops in the malls (I know there is one in Mall St Matthew's) and the frozen ones you can buy in the grocery stores I don't know of any other place you can get them. Actually, the frozen ones are not too bad if you prepare them correctly.

The BBC serves them with house made beer cheese, but I don't know how they would rank against others. I remember the beer cheese was really good and I'm pretty sure they offer a hot mustard, too.

If I remember correctly, Flabby's Schnitzelburg has some authentic pretzels with Dusseldorf mustard. The mustard is definitely spot on, with plenty of horseradish to clear out your sinuses.

Zeppelin Cafe in Germantown has some awesome soft pretzels! See this write-up from Consuming Louisville: http://www.consuminglouisville.com/2009 ... in-caf.php.

Call me a chain-goer, but I love Auntie Annie's at the malls.

Well heck yeah, I love Auntie Anne's too! I am not gonna lie. But I figure everyone already knows how amazingly delicious those are. That's the only reason I didn't mention it. ;)

Well in my opinion, and I am a great lover of soft pretzels, the best place to get a good soft pretzel that is not greasy is at Sam's Club. :o :D
