Fleur De Licious Event

by Steve R » Sat Oct 17, 2009 8:58 pm

I'm planning on taking my wife out to dinner next week and was going to take advantage of the Fleur De Licious menu at a participating restaurant. The Proof menu looks tempting and the Bristol looks pretty good as well. I have never been to White Oak, Blu, Theatre Square Marketplace or Bistro 301 so it might be nice to try something new. Any insight from you forumites on a romantic dinner with some excellent food sans all the squirt bottle presentation with the food stacked 6 inches high. We just want to have some good unpretentious food in a unstuffy setting. Any recommendations would be great. Thanks!

Well Anne marie I am an artist and have a great appreciation for art but sometimes it grows weary when you get a plate that looks like a work of art but tastes like there wasn't alot of thought put into the flavor or the quality of the food and I know you know what I mean. But I don't want this thread to change into something else I was really just wondering if someone had been to any of these restaurants that they thought might be a good choice for us. :)

Cutting to the chase, they're all okay, but I think I'd pick Proof or White Oak as first choices out of that list. No guarantees about plate decoration, but they're really serious about using local produce.

Paige Moore-Heavin covered White Oak for us and came back with a strong positive review in July:

"The White Oak demonstrates that great food doesn’t need to be fancy. All it takes is time-honored techniques and simple, carefully selected ingredients."
Thanks Robin. After reading this I think we have a winner.

Good pick, Steve. I really liked the food and atmosphere at the White Oak -- and the service was outstanding. Plus it sounds like the perfect match for what you were looking for.

I have been to the Theater Square Marketplace for lunch-- It has really great atmosphere , and the food was superb. Definitely worth a try.
