New Cajun/New Orleans Concept Downtown

by James Natsis » Fri Oct 16, 2009 2:15 pm

The print version of Business First has a piece on a new jazz/blues restaurant/club opening soon in the old Petrus spot on Main St. The food will be Louisiana style. I think it is an exciting concept and at a location that will be drawing more attention as the arena becomes more of a reality.

Thanks for the heads up James. It's gonna have to be one heckuva place in order to drag me away from Selenas.

I'm looking forward to it. I'll have to admit, Selena's never did anything all all for me, although it's very popular with the people in my office. We're just down the road and someone stops in at least once a week.

In keeping with the New Orleans theme, J. Gumbo's opened a location in my former hometown of Chalmette, La., which is about 5 miles downriver from New Orleans. There's another place that never did anything for me, but from what I'm hearing it's going over very well.

My impression from the article, and given the location and former occupant (Petrus), is that it will especially appeal to out-of-towners. That is not to say that the food quality or price will not meet local standards. But it will probably be more club-entertainment oriented. Whatever the case, we need to have a strong entertainment base in the downtown area for people attending conferences and other events. In my view this sounds like a winning concept at an ideal location.
