Beer Floats at Dragon King's Daughter

by Paul Mick » Tue Oct 13, 2009 11:55 pm

Somehow I've missed this in the past, but when I was at DKD for a dinner/meeting the other day I found out that they serve beer floats with vanilla ice cream and Breckenridge Vanilla Porter! Now I've enjoyed a few beer floats in my time, but I've never heard of them actually being served at a restaurant!

Also, the meal was amazing as usual and everyone left completely satisfied.

Props again to Toki and her staff.

We serve beer floats at the CPC, although its usually Lindemans Framboise or Young's double chocolate stout

My husband ordered one, and it was great. The problem was, the kids couldn't understand that it wasn't for them, and thought we were holding out on them.

Great with the eel pizza.

I have made beer floats with Guinness. Didn't Ben and Jerry's make a stout ice cream once, or did I dream it?

i didn't see a stout flavor, but they may have one that could make a good float with guinness.

Kasteel Rouge over chocolate ice cream was a favorite of mine. Makes a chocolate covered cherry.

Don't forget that the late, great Michael Jackson (the hefty beer guy, not the pale pedophile) used to swear by a ration of stout poured over vanilla ice cream with a brownie dropped into the glass. I actually sampled this confection at a Breakfast of Champions presentation by Michael at the American Homebrewers' Association conference in Milwaukee in ... 1992? ... and have to admit that it made a pretty good way to start the day. 8)

With a brownie in the glass! Wow, I'm going to have to try that now...

annemarie m wrote:paul, is this like a root beer float minus the root beer but with beer? so how does it taste? sweet? or beery?what a neat idea. i must try one of these...

It does taste "beery," but a nice sweet vanilla bean ice cream balances it out pretty well. I recommend the Breckenridge Vanilla Porter, Young's Double Chocolate, or something similar. Also, the Founder's Cerise would probably make a great float as well, but I've never tried.

Now that I think about it, Dogfish Festina Peche might be really good with a fruity sorbet of some kind.
