Top 10 - Downtown

by Scott Hack » Mon Oct 12, 2009 3:34 pm

I'm working on a new website to cater to people looking for a condo in Louisville, with a big emphasis on downtown condos since I'm really interested in that myself. I'm going to have a small section with a list of places to eat downtown. Can you'll put together a top 10 list of places to eat downtown. All styles, prices, and atmosphere considered.

Thanks!

1. Proof
2. Z's Fusion
3. Mayan Cafe
4. 732 Social
5. Rivue
6. Oakroom
7. English Grill
8. Caviar
9. Wiltshire on Market
10. White Oak

These aren't in any particular order, but would probably be my top 10, though I'm sure I'm leaving something out.

Saffron's comes promptly to mind. I might drop Caviar in its favor, unless Caviar has improved a lot since its opening. Rivue still strikes me a bit dubious in cost/value ratio. On the other hand, if price is not an object, Jeff Ruby's might be worth a mention. I'd say its three or four properties in the Cincy area and here make it, at most, a mini-chain.

Is 610 Magnolia close enough to downtown to count? If so, I would definitely make it a contendah.

I'd like to put Toast on Market as a viable choice for breakfast and lunch.

YaChings
City Cafe
Bistro 301
Maybe not Top 10 (except YaChings), but a couple of more local alternatives.

Theatre Square Marketplace and Saffir's (IMO better than Shiraz).

You should probably throw Jeff Ruby's into the mix, it's a little pricey but depending on the clientele you're looking for it could be a nice alternative. What about some of the places over in Southern Indiana? They certainly are very far away and provide a nice view of the Louisville skyline.

It's near the extreme east end of Broadway. Across from where Steepleton used to be. Near the underpass.

Brent Street crosses Broadway there.

Alert: It's only open for breakfast and lunch, until 4 PM each day.

I would also recommend the Coach Lamp on Vine Street, behind Louisville Stoneware. Open for lunch Tues-Fri and dinner Wed-Sat. Good food in an eclectic and welcoming atmosphere.

I go to Caviar often for lunch, and it has yet to let me down. Regarding Rivue, I'm a huge fan, and would easily put it in my top 10 for the city. We really like it there. I know your brunch review was mixed, but our dinner experiences have been top notch, and I found the prices to be rather on the low end of the upscale range.

Dang! What's the name of the little Italian/Meditenrarian place at 5th behind the CJ? (on the corner? ) Can't remember the name but it's always good and very reasonable.
