BBC St. Matthews

by Marsha L. » Mon Oct 12, 2009 2:25 pm

I met Steve P. and his wife Becky at BBC in St. Matthews Friday night. I'd been only once before for a meal, several months ago for lunch with Gary F.

We didn't have a reservation, and the place was packed at about 7 PM, but we got a table right away on the patio. All I had time for was beer and an appetizer (Freshly baked pretzel with zesty beer cheese), but I could have easily spent the evening there drinking BBC Oktoberfest. I was especially impressed with the menu, which you can see here: http://www.bbcbrew.com/BBC_web_images/MENU_StMatt.pdf
Lots of choices, your basic bar foods are there of course, but they also have a lot of interesting-looking sandwiches and entrees. What I saw being delivered to other tables was looked great - I really wish I'd had time for dinner. Service was quick and not just courteous, but downright cheerful.

They're doing a good job over there. So, if it's fallen off your radar or you've never tried it, give them a try. Outdoor dining was lovely under cover and there are powerful outdoor space heaters which means it'll be comfortable to sit on the patio well into late fall.

Marsha~BBC St.Matthews is one of our favorite places...with and without kids! With the kids, it is great b/c they have the stage area with toys where the kids can run around when they are finished eating. Without the kids....well, need I say more?! lol

I know the Spinach Burger has gotten mixed reviews, but I love it!!! And usually, I go for the real deal and get a hamburger at places, but at BBC I only get the Spinach Burger. Their garlic fries are super garlic-y, but yummy. And you are right on about the servers. We have NEVER been disappointed....they are over the top good.

Hmm....now I am in the mood for BBC and not the orange black beans with cumin that is cooking in my kitchen right now. Thanks, Marsha! ;-p

I concur. I'm not a "veggie burger" kind of guy, but my wife got me to try the spinach burger on the pretzel bun. Very good stuff.

I've had their Oktoberfest, as well as the same style at Browning's recently. Both are quite stellar. Only wish I currently had the time to try out similar selections at the other microbrews in the area.
Thinks the frosty mug is the low point in American history.

Tuesdays. Great time to go. $2.75 beer all day. Great for Warthogs - recommend joining. (They are already out of Oktoberfest - usually happens early - and the turkey burger was being reworked. I had the special - stirfry - very soupy. We shared macaroni and cheese entree - very good - and Mike had small bbq chicken pizza - very good. We ate all the mac; took half of the other stuff home.
He likes APA. I drank the Porter. We were good tonight too. Only 1 beer and left. Not so much fun though being good. (Some summers we would be in there 3 or 4 times a week.)
As UL fans, that's our hang out. Great place to meet people, too. A real Cheers bar.
We actually sat at one of the tables around the bar - first time in years. Very nice service.

Yesterday I had the bison burger with sauteed onions, white cheddar, bacon, fully dressed on a pretzel roll and it was fantastic. Good beer, football, a killer burger, talking junk with my friends... It was great.

I worked there off and on for years and always loved the food. I can say I got some education from them. And I remember the when the spinach burgers hit the menu. Don't know if it's still the practice - I would assume it is - but the owners wife (if I remember correctly) used to make them and bring them in. Definitely good stuff. And then there's the Dark Star Porter chili with a heavy broth and thicks cuts of beef, topped with chopped onion and cheese - I usually leave the cheese off cause I think it interfere's with the immaculate flavor of everything else. Just wish they'd make some more Rausch bier!
