Tradewinds used to be good, but last time it was just too sad.

Ben & Jerry's Southern Pecan Pie

and Peng Looi's Cardamom/Walnut

hands down, the two best ice creams I've ever had

Good point! The best ever is no longer available, alas ... Ehrmann's, from the old Louisville bakery that spent its last days in the Mid-City Mall. Creamy, freshly made, as good as your grandmother's ice cream from the churn, and cheap.

Probably because of my affection for Ehrmann's, I've never really warmed up to Graeter's, but some of their specialty ice creams - particularly peach, in season, can be great.

And when Bistro New Albany has fresh ice cream on the dessert menu, do not hesitate.

Gilberto Gelato was good, too, and I hope the coming shop in Norton Commons will be as good as they were at the Summit last year.

And Graeters peach!

Never had Trauth's. Where can you get it? How does it compare to Breyer's vanilla bean? Also, I was at the Mid City Mall Valu a couple weeks ago, and they had a buy one get one free sale on Prairie Farms vanilla. Tried it, and it was great! I actually liked the no sugar added one better than the regular. My friends agree. It is great with angel food cake and fresh strawberries!

I also like Starlite Frozen Custard. I always either get the peanut butter lustre (bananas, peanut butter, honey) or the casanova (strawberries and chocolate).

The ice cream at Plehn's is good too!

At Kroger (or Kroger's, whichever you prefer  ), I bought these great Egg Nog ice cream sandwiches around Christmastime. I forget the brand name.

On a similar note, I like the ices at Lotsa Pasta, and I used to get the ices at the little temporary stands around town. Anyone know if they still have those? I haven't seen them in awhile.

I have not been to Dairy Kastle yet but plan to soon.

Robin did a Leo Eat N Blog on the subject of ice cream.

Baskin Robbins makes a delicious chocolate peanut butter- it is chocolate ice cream with big pieces of creamy peanut butter. It is the reason why I gained 40 pounds with each pregnancy!

I'm a huge fan of Graeter's (Pumpkin & Hazlenut Chip--both seasonal) & Ben & Jerry's (Wavy Gravy was my fave--sadly taken to the ice cream graveyard).

Also, I had the Cuban bread pudding at H.R. Sunday night & it was served with a scoop of coconut ice cream--it was delicious!

A question: While the dessert was amazing, I was a little taken aback that the bread pudding (a large cake-slice wedge plated with a sliced strawberry, whipped cream & the ice cream drizzled in caramel) was served cold.
I don't think I've ever had bread pudding that wasn't served warm & since I love bread pudding I tend to order it as a dessert quite often.
Like I said, I loved it & would definitely order it again, but I was a little surprised.

Any flavor of Graeter's is great! The Raspberry Chip is certainly among their best but the Peppermint they have during the holidays and the Peach are also wonderful when they're available.

Starlight custard is OK and different for change his but not quite as good. I personally don't care for Marbel Slab of our any of their knockoffs they're just too expensive for the quality.

As far as store bought ice cream goes I like Eddy's slow churned the best.

Melissa, if you like the BR chocolate peanut butter you might give this one a try that you can get a the stores, usually two for $5 or so for a pint, it's the BOMB! It is very rich and I love this combination.

Haagen-Dazs Chocolate Peanut Butter ice cream

start with our legendary chocolate ice cream, made with premium Dutch cocoa. swirl in ribbons of creamy, smooth peanut butter. then experience an almost irresistible blend of flavors as the robust peanut butter complements the classic chocolate in every delicious mouthful.
