March concert/reading series to feature musician Jim Needler</B>

LOUISVILLE, KY — Folk and blues artist Jim Needler will be the featured performer at the next Shady Lane Café "Sweets & Sounds Sundays" concert/reading series, March 11, from 2 to 6 PM.

The Sweets & Sounds Sundays series features a local musician, followed by an open mic for aspiring poets, writers and musicians (acoustic) to share their work. The $5 cover charge includes coffee and a generous slice of homemade pie from the Shady Lane Café kitchen.

Mr. Needler's most recent album is "Bones of My Face." His music is heavily influenced by country rock, spirituals and blues. More information about Mr. Needler's music is available online at: http://cdbaby.com/cd/needler.

The Shady Lane Café is owned by Bill Smith. Bill is widely known across Louisville and literary circles as the poet W. Loran Smith. He has published two collections of poetry, "Night Train" and "Walking Upright" and was named "Best Poet" by Louisville Magazine in the magazine's "Best of Louisville Awards 2005".

A veteran of the restaurant industry, Bill has held various line and chef positions at some of Louisville's most recognized dining establishments, including Equus, Roppell's Catering, Harvest House, and the original Bristol Bar & Grille. He was also shift supervisor at Omega Institute Holistic Retreat in Rienbeck, New York.

At the Shady Lane Café, Bill prepares every dish by hand. The café's Lunch and Dinner menus feature piled-high sandwiches, savory home-made soups, and hot-off-the-grill entrées. The Saturday Morning breakfast service offers early risers the Southern classic biscuits and homemade gravy, as well omelets, breakfast sandwiches and French toast.

"Sweets & Sounds Sunday" is held the second Sunday of the month, from 2-6 PM at the Shady Lane Café, 4806 Brownsboro Center. On March 11, the featured performer is folk & blues musician Jim Needler. Poets, writers and musicians (acoustic only) are welcome to participate during the open mic following the performance. Cover is $5 and includes coffee and dessert.

According to their web site, breakfast is served from 8am - 12 noon saturdays. I've had the biscuits and gravy -- very good.
