Where to get Real Cincinnati-style Chili in Cinci?

by David R. Pierce » Mon Sep 28, 2009 12:08 pm

I've tried Camp Washington, Gold Star and Skyline. Can anyone steer me to some old school chili parlors in Cincinnati?

Dixie Chili. The original in Newport, KY (across the river from Cincinnati).

I believe Empress would be THE original Cincinnati chili joint, pre-dating both Gold Star and Skyline but neglected to become a chain. I have no idea if it still upholds the tradition, but it would be worth going once in the name of food history.

Sadly, the original mothership location of Empress closed (like Camp Washington was forced to move when they widened Hopple Street) but the new location hasn't skipped a beat.

I second this one. They are excellent. Every trip to Cincy includes a stop here.

Awesome! Thank you. My weekly trips take me to Evendale. So Blue Ash is the closest and Empress is close enough. I'll report my findings.
