Schlafly Cask Tapping Tonight 9/28/09!!!

by Scott_Shreffler » Mon Sep 28, 2009 11:08 am

Good afternoon, all. With Robin's permission, I wanted to let you all know about a special event going on tonight at Cafe Lou Lou in the Highlands. At 6 o'clock, I'll be tapping a cask of Schlafly American Brown Ale. A fairly hoppy Brown Ale to begin with, the cask includes an additional dry-hopping of Cascade and Columbus hops. The roasty-ness of the Brown Ale plays very nicely off the citrusy qualities of the American hops. As always, if you buy a pint of of this delicious beer, you'll get to keep the glass. Hope to see lots of you there tonight for some good food, good beer and good times. Cheers.

My first weeknight off in months, couldn't have come at a better time! I'll be there, and try to drag my dad along.

Adam, looking forward to seeing you there. Come up and say Hi. I'm the tall guy in the Schlafly sweatshirt. If you're there at 6, I'll even let you be the one to tap the cask.
On another note, today is National Drink Beer Day. Not sure how far and wide this is observed, but noteworthy nonetheless. So, no matter where you drink today (hopefully it'll be at Cafe Lou Lou with me, Clay and the whole gang :D ), be sure to raise a glass in honor of all of the great craft brewers going today. Cheers, all.

Thank you for the heads-up about National Drink Beer Day. I immediately shot off an email to my two sons. I didn't want them to waste the opportunity.

I also love your quote "Life is too short to drink cheap beer" so I did some googling on it. Hunter S. Thompson wasn't given credit for the quote; so I googled his name. Interesting guy! From my era! I'm going to have to do some serious research on him. So far the best quotes that I've found attributed to him are

Thanks to all of you who came out tonight. The beer was fantastic. Lucky for all of you who couldn't make it, there is a bit of beer left. So, Cafe Lou Lou will be pulling the cask out again tomorrow night. Same deal as tonight. Buy a pint and keep the glass. I'm sure they'll have some amazing dinner specials, as usual, so make a night of it. I'll be there again, so see you all tomorrow night.

Gayle - Thompson was also a local boy, having grown up in Louisville (besides being one of the greatest writers of the 20th century, of course).

If you want to ease into his work, let me recommend "The Kentucky Derby is Decadent and Depraved," a hilarious short look at the Derby in the late 60s (or maybe 1970).

Thanks for the "heads up" Brad. I'll stop by the library this afternoon.

Gayle .. I assume you know that even if a book is not available at your library, you can request it and it will be sent to your library of choice. They will notify you when it arrives. LFPL.org

Thank you, Steve. I'm afraid that at the rate I am going today, it will be tomorrow before I try to get that book.
